Necropolis Preview | GameRevolution

Added: 05.09.2015 20:17 | 13 views | 0 comments

GR: The Souls games are often thrown around as a key source of inspiration, but a few games have tried to copy them to such a degree that the inspiration has almost reached a point of saturation. Thus, games like Necropolis still feel fresh and exciting because they take that Souls formula and transition it to different environments with various mechanical tweaks. Necropolis uses procedurally-generated content and weapon variety to help create its own identity while still establishing a sense of familiarity for action-RPG fans. It is one of the best games at PAX Prime this year.

YIIK: A Postmodern RPG Preview | GameRevolution

Added: 05.09.2015 15:17 | 10 views | 0 comments

GR: Who needs swords and axes when you have records and keyboards? YIIK: A Postmodern RPG is an appropriate title for the quirky JRPG. It features a kid with hook hands, combat mini-games, and a 1990s setting. It clearly goes for that postmodern style, but not in such a way that it tries too hard. The demo at PAX Prime showcases the game with a quirky personality that encourages the player to explore and learn more about its characters. YIIK seems like a weird game, and it is to a large degree, but other JRPGs like EarthBound remind us that sometimes weird is a good thing.
