EpicDome - Dying Light Review (PS4, 2015)

The Illusive Man says: "What happens when you cross Dead Island with the French parkour movie District B-13? You get Techlands Dying Light, thats what a game that implements all the roof-hoping excitement of parkour with the visceral slaughter of Dead Island. Techland has steadily improved upon their zombie melee mayhem which first began with the original Dead Island. Dead Island was fun, but it suffered from a truckload of bugs and other issues, such as enemy level matching. And the story, which centered around cardboard characters, was utterly disappointing. Well, that game was followed by the expansion pack side story Dead Island: Riptide. Riptide wasnt a genuine sequel to Dead Island as much as it was extended DLC. It still suffered from many of the same issues as Dead Island, but it was also just as fun assuming you played any multiplayer. So is Dying Light the complete zombie package that unites melee combat with an engaging story? Unfortunately, no."

Dying Light presents a simple formula, Dead Island mixed with Mirrors Edge. That is the core concept of the game. On top of that the game sets out to make sure you fear the night time. But with it being developed by the same company as the abysmal Dead Island Riptide as well as the original Dead Island the goals may seem too lofty for this company. Will it succeed where the Dead Island games failed? Or will it simply be another game for the bargain bin?

| Dying Light Review: Surprisingly Lively | Technology Tell

Technology Tell writes, "Other than the somewhat oxymoronic risk of karoshi, Techlands Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide are fundamentally similar to Dying Light. All three are packed with zombies, and it is the primary goal of the player to make them less packed with zombies. With that said, Dying Light is head and shoulders above any of Techlands prior undead outings, and makes for a far more engaging survivor experience."

Neil writes "When I first heard Techland were coming back into the zombie genre with Dying Light a little piece of me sank. Not only am I not a great fan of melee smashers, or indeed the undead, but over the last few years Ive taken in and hated Dead Island, its Riptide add-on and all the buggy issues that they both contained.
But the more I read about Techlands plans for Dying Light, the more I saw developer playthroughs and the more I watched some stunningly good parkour videos, the more my mind started to turn. Started to believe that what was planned could indeed become a great reality."

GamesAsylum: "After making a splash on mobiles and tablets, Vector Units futuristic racer arrives on Xbox One. Dont let the fact that its a mobile conversion put you off there are no microtransactions in sight, and for something arriving with a mere £3.99 price tag its accomplished enough visually. Not a stunner by any means, but the water effects are suitably inviting and it shifts at a fair old lick"

Review for Riptide GP2 on Xbox One. It's time to make some waves! Water-based racing games are becoming an increasingly underrepresented genre so thank Poseidon that Riptide GP2 is here. As you speed through each race on your rocket-powered hydro jet, you'll find it difficult not to enjoy every moment.

"We were positively surprised at how much fun Techland has managed to get out of such a worn and overused motif. The story won't immerse you as much as it should, but that's perfectly acceptable in this sort of game. The storytelling is a step forward for the studio, even if it's not of the highest calibre; but it's certainly better than Dead Island and Riptide before it. If you've still got a thing for zombies, you should definitely give Dying Light a shot (preferably in the head)."
