Corsual Let's Play: Dead Island Riptide with EXP
Added: 02.05.2013 13:17 | 14 views | 0 comments
Corsual's EXP writes: "Dead Island: Riptide, soon to be known as Dead Island: On Another Island is stale entry into the first-person-whack-a-zombie genre that, like its predecessor, Dead Island, places a group of survivors on a tropical island filled with zombies that need to be kicked, stomped, stabbed or blown away, so that said survivors can stay... well, survivors.
Basic RPG mechanics and a lacklustre plot fail miserably in their attempt to cloak the monotonous, tiring gameplay; though, as with the first, thousands of mindless zombie fans are likely going to love it all the same. "

| Dead Island Riptide Review: Should Have Stayed Dead - Error! Not Found
Added: 02.05.2013 2:17 | 30 views | 0 comments
"Lets say that the first Dead Island was a survivor of a zombie apocalypse. He wasnt the ideal survivor, but he had his quirks. You may not have wanted to stay around him for too long, so after you worked together for about 15-20 hours you left to go find your friend named Skyrim. Two years after leaving him, you decide to go back and find Dead Island, but all that is left of him is a shambling corpse that goes by Riptide."

Sequels; love em or hate em, theyve been an important part of this generation. Rather than taking risks on new IPs, many publishers have played it safe and stuck to tried and tested franchises that are guaranteed to bring the cash flowing in. With developers and publishers downscaling and going out for the count left right and centre, you cant really blame them either.
Yet sequels dont have to be a bad thing. Weve been treated to some fantastic trilogies and more-ogies during this console cycle; Uncharted, Gears of War, Mass Effect, Assassins Creed and Bioshock just to name a few. In these examples, every successive release stuck to the formula that fans loved whilst making refinements that kept it fresh. Sure, there may have been some missteps and divisive opinions over those changes, but at least you can say they tried something new.
Which is a lot more than can be said about Techlands Dead Island: Riptide.

Dave Payerle writes: In the corner of my living room is my shelf of shame, piled high with games that I have never gotten around to finishing, or in some cases never even played. The original Dead Island is in the latter group, sitting on the shelf, still in its shrink wrap, waiting to be played. It waited so long that the sequel, Dead Island Riptide, came out and I was tasked with playing that for review instead. For a game that seems perfectly suited to my tastes, Riptide never clicked with me, and it will soon be collecting dust on the shelf next to its predecessor.

Dead Island Riptide proves that although you can't polish a turd, you can roll it around in glitter.
