Dead Island: Riptide Review - GamesReviews

From GamesReviews:
"Dead Island: Riptide is more of the same in the best possible way. All series fans really needed was more zombies and more loot, and the game delivers. Hopefully we'll see some big changes when the inevitable Dead Island 2 hits next-gen consoles but for now I am perfectly happy to grab my trusty meat cleaver and fight them on the beaches once again."

There are a total of 10 diary collectibles in Dead Island Riptide. Finding all of them is a requirement for the Hoarder trophy or achievement (find all 61 collectibles). In the inventory you can see which collectibles you have already found. They are all numbered and you can identify missing collectibles easily. There is no free roam after the story ends, so you have to collect everything before completing the last chapter.

Chad from We Got This Covered wrote:
Two years ago, Polish developer Techland joined forces with Deep Silver, and presented the gaming community with one of the most talked-about video games of this generation: Dead Island. An interactive take on an unrealistic vacation from Hell scenario, the first-person shooter/action-RPG tasked players with surviving against hordes of undead foes, while attempting to escape a popular vacation island. It didn't matter if you went it alone, or with up to three friends, the experience consisted of lots of hacking and slashing, along with tons of fetching and a lot of travel. As such, that rather basic design formula and its resulting repetition led to polarizing opinions within the new intellectual property's rather large group of consumers, many of whom had purchased the game based on its unforgettable promotional trailer.

There are a total of 13 champion monsters in Dead Island Riptide. Finding and killing all of them will earn you the "Hunter-Seeker" trophy or achievement. They are all hidden in small side areas, the "dead zones". The first six can be found in the Flooded Jungle and the remaining seven in Henderson. Defeating the champions will also give you lots of XP and they usually drop some nice weapons.

| Is this Nordic Games' time to shine?

GameZone writes, "You know, it's funny. Sometimes the biggest success stories in the video game industry come out of left field. For instance, take Deep Silver. A few years ago, the publisher was best known for handheld Duke Nukem efforts. Lately, though, it's been making big moves, with Dead Island: Riptide arriving in stores this week and Saints Row IV and Metro: Last Light slated for later this year. It's funny how a few franchises can turn you around. And that's probably what Nordic Games is thinking, too. "
