GiantBomb- Dead Island Riptide Review

GB:The first Dead Island was long on good ideas but short on skillful execution, and while there's still a truly great game lurking in there somewhere, Riptide is not it. It's a shame Techland didn't take this opportunity to take a step back and figure out how to properly evolve this formula before iterating on the franchise again. Maybe that truly improved Dead Island will still come along someday, but in the meantime, Riptide feels like a game that didn't really need to be made.

Dead Island Riptide review: uninspired and boring | ShackNews

ShackNews: "Beyond its iffy design choices, Riptide still feels like a buggy mess, whether it's because of zombies getting stuck in pieces of the environment, clunky animations, framerate drops, or the game's sound outright dying on me -- twice! Riptide is a zombie nightmare, but not the one I was hoping to see."

STN: Dead Island Riptide Review

STN: "You can't really tell which one's are zombies and which are human," that was the words uttered from my wife's mouth when she walked into the room during one of my review sessions with Dead Island: Riptide. She may have a point. The thing about this new spin off (the developer says it's not a sequel) is that it's not particularly pretty in places, more so during cutscenes, however sometimes it's not all about looks, sometimes all you want from a game is some zombie heads to bash together, and in this respect Dead Island: Riptide pretty much delivers.

Tin Salamunic: No one can deny the ambition behind the original Dead Island. Its majestic environments and RPG elements fused beautifully with the zombie theme and unique first-person melee combat. Despite its technical hiccups at launch, Dead Island was an immersive adventure with a vast explorable sandbox and superb co-op action. Riptide is the latest entry in Deep Silvers Zombie slaughter fest but its not exactly a sequel, its more of a companion piece, a spin off so to speak. The developers themselves compare it to Fallout: New Vegas in terms of its place in the franchise and its clear why. Although the game takes place in the same universe and even continues the narrative directly after the predecessor, it stands on its own as an independent title. Nearly all fan feedback has been addressed to make Riptide the ultimate Dead Island experience and Im happy to report that the result is spectacular. Dead Island Riptide is the most fun Ive had with a video game this year so fa...
