Not bad, but we've seen this zombie hunt before.

Den of Geek: Although Dead Island hay have failed to fully live up to the hype generated by that awesome trailer, the mixture of Borderlands and Left 4 Dead still made for an enjoyable open-world zombie-masher. Sure, it was repetitive, often glitchy and had one of the worst endgame battles I've seen in recent times, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. Now Riptide is here to deliver more of the same, but can it refine the formula?

Mark goes in search of zombie-killing fun in Dead Island: Riptide, but finds little more than a frustrating mess of half-baked ideas and repetitive combat.

"Riptide repeats pretty much every problem that plagued its predecessor, and fails to do anything interesting or inspired with the same-old formula.
"It offers a fraction of the fun delivered by Left 4 Dead, cant hold a candle to the anarchic brilliance of Borderlands, and is neither a truly engaging sandbox experience nor a genuinely satisfying action-horror."

OPM: Youd have thought Coolio would have taught me better, but two years ago, I kept spending most of life living in a coffin-dodgers paradise. And I really dont know why. Sure, Techlands first zombie open-worlder had some sturdy melee scuffles, but it was also plagued with bugs, dull objectives and hateful characters. Now I find myself booking yet another holiday with the same unreliable, undead travel agent and the package deal has only gotten worse.

Dead Island had many fooled the first time around. Most of the interest was, of course, thanks to that trailer, and as such buyers would have been forgiven for thinking they'd be theyd be getting a harrowing, serious game. Then it came out and turned out to have as much emotional resonance as going to the toilet. Riptide is no better.

Publisher Deep Silver is back to take you on another zombie-infested tropical getaway. But does Dead Island: Riptide breathe new life into its genre, or is it just a walking corpse?

"Fast forward about a year and a half, and publisher Deep Silver has now released Dead Island Riptide, not quite a sequel, but rather the next installment in the franchise.
If you liked the original, youre going to fall in love with Riptides improvements; however, if the first didnt fit your fancy, then you likely wont find your views changed."
