Playing as a fresh character comes with a few benefits. Firstly, you have a new progression path as you gain experience, with many of the more advanced stealth techniques open from the start like the ability to jump down on an enemy, sinking your neon dagger into his chest, pulling it out and finishing his friend off in one smooth motion. And then you can stick your middle finger up at them. Yes, the game has a button for vulgar gestures, which is almost as good as 50 Cent: Blood on The Sands swear button.

Sony developers and engineers discuss how advancements of new controller for PlayStation 4 affect gameplay experiences.

Sony released a new video today that details the advancements of the PlayStation 4's new . In the video, developers and engineers discuss what makes the input's features unique and how those features will affect the overall gameplay experience.

First, Sony product planner Toshimasa Aoki explained that the company spoke with various first-party developers (Media Molecule, Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Sucker Punch Productions) about what they would like to see from a new controller and what they thought was missing in the DualShock 3.

"Everything's been tuned. The feel of the analog sticks, the sensitivity of both different types of triggers. And in addition to that, there have been all these features added to it, without compromising the basic feel of the DualShock," added Sony senior vice president of product development Scott Rohde.

The video also goes into detail regarding the functionality of the DualShock 4's lightbar. This feature allows the controller (in conjunction with the PlayStation Eye) to track the position of multiple people in the room. This allows the PS4 to specifically detect who is who, and adjust accordingly, for co-op games.

"If the system sees that for some reason we've swapped places or I've passed the controller to someone, it can automatically adjust the ordering of the split-screen so that it makes sense to everyone," senior software engineer Anton Mikhailov said. "It seems like a minor thing, but it actually really helps the flow of the game; helps the intuitiveness of the whole console."

Sony also discussed the DualShock 4's touch-pad in the video. The pad supports multi-touch and Sony said that the touch interactions will be "very comfortable" for players. A developer is shown using his thumb and fingers to swipe on the pad.

The video also treads over old ground, touching on the DualShock 4's speaker and its share Share button, which allows players to post screenshots and videos to social networking sites.

The PS4 launches this holiday season. According to lead system architect Mark Cerny, the software launch lineup for the system will be .

Sony has not announced a price for the platform, though an unconfirmed report claims the platform will be .

Illinois library rejects request to stop stocking M-rated games

Added: 18.04.2013 20:24 | 22 views | 0 comments

Elmhurst Public Library board members shoot down request from resident group seeking to change library's policy.

Residents of Elmhurst, Illinois will not be barred from borrowing M-rated games at their local library. officials this week shot down requests from a group of residents seeking to change the library's policy, citing no connection between violent games and violent behavior.

"There's no evidence I can see between these games and violent behavior," library director Mary Beth Campe told the paper.

She and other board members said they believe the inclusion of M-rated games in the library's catalog is a matter of freedom of expression, protected under the First Amendment.

At a meeting Tuesday, citizen group speaker Jim Schuetz said the group was not seeking a ban on the games, but rather wanted the library to "implement selection criteria and procedures" for the games the library chose to make available. He said he was motivated to take action after President Obama called on citizens to take steps to reduce gun violence in the United States following the Sandy Hook shooting in December.

According to Campe, materials chosen for the library--including M-rated games--are selected on the basis of online sources of popular material as well as community requests. Such an approach leaves room for contestable material, but this is nothing new, a board member said.

"Some citizens consider Harry Potter or Fifty Shades of Grey objectionable," board member Jan Vanek said. "We are in a culture of violence, but it doesn't start in the public library."

The Elmhurst Public Library stocks E, T, and M-rated games, but no AO titles. According to the Chicago Tribune, the library requires anyone checking out an M-rated game to provide identification proving they are 17 or older and self-checkout is not allowed for these games.

Some of the M-rated games available at the library, , include various Killzone, Call of Duty, and Grand Theft Auto games.
