Barlog announced his return as creative director at the studio on the PlayStation Blog, where he is creating something "freaking huge" that "will rock the free world".
"I have worked in many places, with any number of smart people of all disciplines, notoriety and awesomeness," said Barlog, "but nowhere have I encountered so many 'top-of-their-game' people as I have at Sony."

After spending time working with Crystal Dynamics, Avalanche Studios, Mad Max director George Miller, and Star Wars creator George Lucas, Barlog said he was "ready to come back home."
"There I would use my newly honed powers of awesome to create something that will rock the free world," Barlog said.
Barlog would not go into specifics regarding his current project at Sony Santa Monica, but said he is hiring an Ocean's 11-style cast of developers to work on a "freaking huge" game.
"If you are a freaking rock star unafraid to roll your sleeves up and take risks, reading this thinking that your current digs are feeling#146;well#146;a bit small, a bit dull and in need of some excitement--you need to contact me at Sony Santa Monica," Barlog said.
Barlog ended his note saying he will continue working hard to make games so long as consumers promise to buy them. "If you don't, God will kill a puppy," he said.

Sony#146;s Santa Monica Studio has confirmed that it has ceased active development for mascot-driven fighting game .
The news, conveyed on the All-Stars blog, confirmed that no additional playable characters or background environments will be released for the game, but that previously exclusive DLC will be made available.
Starting on August 27, players will be able to get their hands on the formerly US-only pre-order skins for Dante, Raiden, Heihachi, and Big Daddy. A balance patch that will tweak player strength, weakness, and functionality is planned for later this year, and will coincide with free costumes for Zeus, as well as Dead Space#146;s Isaac Clarke.
The game#146;s new developer confirmed that it is currently exploring issues with title belts being incorrectly awarded, and moving forward, will reset leaderboards on a monthly basis, as well as introduce new community events.
lso addressed recent rumours about Journey- and Gravity Rush-themed stages, as well as Legend of Dragoon character, Dart, saying that legal barriers may have stopped certain items being implemented in the game.
"In the course of any game's development, there are always elements that never quite get finished or the team decides not to use in the final game. Some of these additional materials from the game#146;s development phase have been recently released, but unfortunately, these are very far from finished assets and were not included in the final game for a number of production and legal reasons," the statement said.
