Super Smash Bros. success due in part to eSports and livestreams, Nintendo exec says

Added: 02.12.2014 21:11 | 6 views | 0 comments

With the recent release of Super Smash Bros. for both the Wii U and 3DS, Nintendo has seen a marked increase in hardware sales of the aforementioned consoles, not surprising due to the fact that Super Smash Bros. for the Wii U is currently the most successful Wii U launch title in Nintendos history selling nearly 500,000 copies (both physical and digital) within the first 3 days of its release. In fact, the Super Smash Bros. franchise is nearing 15 million total copies sold at the time of this writing. Yet, according to Nintendos executive president of sales and marketing executive, Scott Moffitt, Super Smash Bros. did not get to where it is today simply by the merits of its franchise, however impressive or numerous they may be, pointing to the role that eSports, livestreams, and Nintendo's pre-launch awareness tactics have played into Super Smash Bros. immense success.
