Jade Raymond

Veteran Ubisoft producer Jade Raymond--who worked on franchises such as Assassin's Creed and Splinter Cell--has left the French publisher after ten years, it was announced today. Most recently, she served as managing director of Ubisoft Toronto.

"Today, Ubisoft announced that after 10 years of collaboration, the company and Jade Raymond have agreed to pursue future opportunities separately," Ubisoft said in a statement.

Raymond will be replaced by Alexandre Parizeau, a founding member of Ubisoft Toronto, as managing director of the studio.

Alex Parizeau

"I've spent 10 extraordinary years at Ubisoft, and I am proud to have been part of many of the best teams in the industry making truly remarkable games," Raymond said. "This is one of the hardest decisions of my career, but the Toronto studio is strong and on a solid path. I'm confident that now is a good time for me to transition leadership of the studio to Alex and to pursue my other ambitions and new opportunities.

"Stay tuned for more on what's next for me, but for now, I'd like to thank Ubisoft for its partnership through the years, and I wish them the very best in all their next endeavors," she added.

Raymond served as producer on the original Assassin's Creed, and worked as an executive producer on Assasssin's Creed II. Other credits include Watch Dogs and Splinter Cell: Blacklist. She served as Ubisoft Toronto's managing director since 2009.

Raymond will officially depart Ubisoft Toronto on October 29, at which time Parizeau will become managing director. Parizeau is a 15-year veteran of the video game industry, and served as senior producer on Splinter Cell: Blacklist and producer on Splinter Cell Conviction and Rainbow Six Vegas.

Parizeau will report directly to Ubisoft Montreal and Toronto CEO Yannis Mallat.

"On behalf of Ubisoft, I'd like to thank Jade for her leadership and many contributions over the years, and wish her all the best in her next adventures," Mallat said. "The Toronto studio is a key part of the Ubisoft global network, and Alex has been at the heart of the studio's growth over the years. He was the obvious choice to lead this talented group of people as they continue to develop amazing games."

Added: 16.10.2014 2:13 | 3 views | 0 comments

Splinter Cell: Conviction stars a Sam Fisher on his last ropes. The stealth soldier extraordinaire has left Third Echelon, his super-secret government agency, after a disastrous undercover assignment that ended with both his best friend and daughter dead. In the aftermath, hes been pulling a Jack Bauer between seasons of 24: staring at walls, drinking coffee, growling, and working on his facial hair. When he returns to stabbing guys from the shadows, its not as an official government agent but as an outsider with limited equipment and no backup.

Tin Salamunic: Why is nobody talking about this game? Thats the lingering question everytime Cyanide Studio releases a new title. These guys may not have the absurd budget of most AAA developers, but their works always radiate with personality and great gameplay mechanics. Styx: Master of Shadows is the latest gem in a long line of overlooked Cyanide releases and its about time more gamers start paying attention. Styx combines elements of Dishonored, Hitman, Mark of the Ninja and Splinter Cell into a superb stealth adventure that every genre fan needs in their collection. What else? Its only $29.99! Its half the price and twice the quality and value of most things released these days. While it still suffers from a few technical hiccups here and there, Styx: Master of Shadows puts the recent Thief remake to shame. Tenchu and Shinobido fans pay attention!

While it cribs the best parts of Splinter Cell Metal Gear Solid, the fantasy-flavored stealth action game Styx Master Of Shadows is ultimately just okay.

Styx: Master of Shadows (XB1) Review

Ken McKown writes: The stealth genre has never been front-runner for my favorite type of game. Sure I have enjoyed various Splinter Cell titles, and Metal Gear Solid is my all-time favorite series, but the idea of patience in a game has never clicked very well for me. Combine that with the fact that Styx isnt exactly a household name, and this latest ID@Xbox title did little to excite me upon its release. That is until I sat down and played it.

Eric from We Got This Covered wrote: Fans of traditional stealth-based games have had a rough go of it over the past few years. Genre stalwarts such as Splinter Cell and Hitman have embraced more action-oriented gameplay, while former critical darling Thief returned with a flop earlier this year. This has left developers such as Arkane Studios (Dishonored) and The Creative Assembly (Alien: Isolation) with the opportunity to pick up the slack. Another developer, Cyanide Studios, is now looking to make a name for themselves in the genre with their latest effort, Styx: Master of Shadows.

Sam Fisher voice actor initially turned down the role as a "two dimensional killing machine"

Added: 11.10.2014 20:12 | 11 views | 0 comments

PC Gamer: Sam Fisher of Splinter Cell fame is one of the teresting videogame protagonists to turn up over the past decade or so. He's appropriately dangerous, but not a relentless, unstoppable killing machine; he's actually at his best when he gets the job done quietly. Some credit for that aspect of his character goes to Michael Ironside, who voiced Fisher through the first five games in the series, and who said in an AMA yesterday that he actually backed out of the job at first because it was too "bloody and violent."

Up until now, gamers looking for a pure triple-A stealth experience that didnt have Thief or Splinter Cell in its title have had to make do with slim pickings. Cyanide Studios is hoping to change that however with its newest game release; Styx: Master of Shadows. The game combines freeform exploration with a plot centered around an unusual protagonist: the titular Styx, a goblin master thief who utilizes various tools and unconventional tricks to help him get in undetected and get out. But does Styx strike the right balance of tense stealth, harrowing escapes, and satisfying loot collecting? Or was this goblin thief better off remaining in the shadows?
