NGB Wrote: "Strike Suit Zero: Directors Cut is a game thats been needed for a while, but doesnt quite go far enough. The resurrection of the space combat genre on consoles is something that was needed for the duration of the PS3/360 era, and SSZ has done it with great style and visual flair for the new consoles. However, the repetitive nature of the missions and lack of variety tarnishes the game somewhat. Random difficulty spikes and poor checkpointing in some missions hamper the enjoyability even further.
A welcome addition to the next gen consoles, Strike Suit Zero: Directors Cut falls short of being a must-buy. The last great space combat game for me was Star Wars: Jedi Starfighter, and SSZ definitely draws from things that made previous games in the genre feel great. The nostalgia factor certainly helps to make it feel welcome, but ultimately it feels a little flat when viewed as a whole. Heres hoping that this jump-starts a new wave of games in the genre though, just w...

Ken McKown writes: Space shooters are a dying breed. You will hear veterans like myself cite Colony Wars religiously whenever the genre is mentioned, and for good reason; there havent been many titles as impressive since it came out nearly 20 years ago. Strike Suit Zero had a solid run on PC, but now it is landing on the new consoles, and even has the distinction of being the first ID@Xbox title on Xbox One.

"Strike Suit Zero was released last year on the PC and it was met with a mixed reception. Hoping to make the game better, the game now has a Directors Cut edition that has debuted for the Xbox One and PS4. This version includes the extra Heroes of the Fleet DLC plus promises to be a better experience overall. With that being said, is game a flying good time or is it better left dying in the hangar?"

| Review: Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut | Stevivor

Stevivor, "Strike Suit Zero is occasionally brilliant yet regularly frustrating. For every moment that wows, there are ten that undermine that brief thrill. The game relies entirely on sheer enemy numbers to generate difficulty, gameplay and length. Often times I was sure that I was nearing the completion of a mission only to discover I was barely a quarter done and waves upon waves of enemies were only just beginning."

Space shooters like 'Strike Suit Zero' fit a specific niche genre. They can be tedious and simulation-like, or a straight up arcade action experience. 'Strike Suit Zero: Director's Cut' fits nicely somewhere in the middle. The developers at Born Ready Games put a significant amount of effort into the port. The visuals are simply stunning, but the repetitive nature of the gameplay as a whole has a tendency to dilute the overall experience. In its current, revised form, the game is diverting to play and better to look upon, but stops short of full engagement.
