Halo: Spartan Strike Review | NGN

NGN:
The top-down, twin stick shooter genre is commonly dominated by smaller and independent developers. So when an established franchise chooses to dip its toes into the genre, fans take notice. 2013's Halo: Spartan Assault was one such example, offering players a new experience firmly grounded in the Halo universe. Unfortunately, a poor microtransaction model and flimsy controls kept the game from reaching the heights Microsoft was aiming for. But they aren't afraid to try again, so 343 Industries and Vanguard Games have returned with Halo: Spartan Strike.

| Project Root Review (Video Chums)
Added: 30.04.2015 21:17 | 8 views | 0 comments
Review for Project Root on PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and Xbox One. An interesting combination of classic shoot 'em ups and EA's Strike series. When a game combines elements to form its own identity, the result is always interesting. Project Root features the bullet-dodging arcade gameplay of retro shoot 'em ups with rotational movement controls similar to the Strike games. Is this a winning combination or are you better off sticking to the roots of these genres?

Dealspwn: " Project Root blithely assembles the worst parts of scrolling SHMUPs and open world shooters into a complete mess. Lacklustre presentation, an inappropriate progression system and plenty of bugs on all formats round out a thoroughly disappointing package.
It's clear that OPQAM didn't really understand what made their inspirations so successful in the first place."

| Black Ops III's singleplayer campaign takes COD off-rails
Added: 26.04.2015 18:17 | 13 views | 0 comments
Call Of Duty isn't usually recognised as being particularly innovative, because most of its experiments take place within the strictures imposed by its spectacularly cinematic campaigns, fan expectations, and each game's short development cycle.
There have been efforts to shake things up over the years the RTS-style Strike missions in Black Ops 2 and the exo abilities in last years excellent Advanced Warfare spring to mind but theres always the familar beats of a stealth level or two, some on-rails turret sections, and vehicle passages that never quite feel like their inclusion in completely justified.
With Black Ops 3, Treyarch appears to finally be making substantive changes to a gameplay formula that has been refined and recycled over and over since 2007s Modern Warfare: its adding co-op functionality for up to four, and in the process is removing the rails from under a game thats trundled along them for more than a decade.
