Ian Fisher writes: It may have seemed as if any hope for a relatively stripped down and classic stealth game was lost, but now one has finally risen to the surface. Mike Bithell, creator of Thomas Was Alone, has unveiled his latest project: Volume. While it may sound like a catchy name for a nightclub, Volume is actually an intriguing stealth game that melds several elements into an experience that could have players fawning over it. Given my love of all things stealth related, I thought it would be good to take a look at the debut trailer of Volume and share that with our fine readers via The Breakdown.

Thomas Was Alone developer announces Volume

Mike Bithell's next project a top-down stealth game with support for community created levels.

Mike Bithell, creator of indie hit , has unveiled his second project.

Volume is a top-down stealth game where the player, a thief, cannot kill. Instead he steals items from the game's neon-coloured settings. Tools like blackjacks, bugles, thunderclaps, and veils can be used to distract and disable opponents, and more tools will be available as the player progresses through the game.

The game, due to be released in late 2014, will also allow players to modify levels and share the results with the community.

"I've wanted to make a top down stealth game since I was a kid. This is my tribute to the games I played back then, hopefully with a couple of cool twists. Allowing players to make their own worlds and tell their own stories is fascinating to me," said Bithell to GameSpot.

Bithell adds that he is not currently announcing what platforms Volume will be released on, and that he will detail the game's plot at the UK's GameCity 8 event in Nottingham this October.

David Housden, who created the score for Thomas Was Alone, will return for the Volume soundtrack.

Bithell's last game, Thomas Was Alone, was released for PC in 2012, with PS3 and Vita versions following. "Thomas Was Alone utilizes its diverse characters and varied obstacles to create an engaging platformer," .

DuckTales Remastered Review: Nostalgia Killer - The Koalition

The Koalition - Thomas Chamberlain. Overall it seems that this game has been made for no-one, the bad platforming and short length makes it an unfulfilling experience that angered me more than it pleasured me. There are moments of brightness hidden within and super-fans of the original may find some enjoyment at the novelty of a remastered version of their favourite NES title but apart from that I have to say that DuckTales Remastered is a universally disappointing game.

Sneak, distract and avoid in 2014.

The game's blurb reads: "[REDACTED] Does not kill. That would be far too easy. Instead, he commits his crimes through stealth. He sneaks, he distracts, he avoids. He is never seen, and seldom heard. As he grows in popularity and notoriety, so will his inventory. Blackjacks, bugles, thunderclaps and veils are just some of the tools at [REDACTED]'s disposal."

Volume will ship with hundreds of environments to beat, but this is only where the game starts.

"Every area of the game can be remixed, added to and expanded upon," explains the announcement. "The community are free...
