The May lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers in Europe has been announced by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe.

PlayStation Vita owners will have access to shmup revival from May 8, which will replace Zero Escape: Virtue's Last Reward. Velocity Ultra HD will also be available from May 15, whereas outgoing adventure Thomas Was Alone will leave PlayStation Plus on May 22.

A 12-month subscription to the PlayStation Plus service has an RRP of £39.99.

Ubisoft completes Anno dev acquisition

Assassin's Creed publisher purchases remaining 70 percent of stake in Related Designs for undisclosed sum.

Ubisoft has completed its acquisition of developer Related Designs. The Assassin's Creed publisher previously owned 29.95 percent of the company and has now executed a cash transaction to acquire the remaining 70.05 percent.

Terms of the deal were not specified.

Related Designs was established in Mainz, Germany in 1995. The developer created the Anno real-time strategy series, as well as other RTS titles like .

With Ubisoft now in control of the company, Related Design's 65-person staff will continue its work on the browser-based free-to-play massively multiplayer online game . In addition, the studio will work with Ubisoft-owned Blue Byte on "future titles."

"We're happy to formally join Ubisoft," Related Designs managing director Thomas Pottkämper said in a statement. "This move validates our longstanding partnership and provides our teams with additional resources to expand upon their great work."

Thatgamecompany's adventure title beats out Mass Effect 3, Walking Dead, and others to secure top honor; Cart Life wins grand prize at Independent Game Festival Awards.

The votes are in and has taken top honors at the 13th annual Game Developers Choice Awards this evening in San Francisco, California. Journey not only took home the top award, but also accolades for innovation, best visual arts, best downloadable game, best audio, and best game design.

Thatgamecompany's adventure game beat out to secure the Game of the Year Award.

Jenova Chen, cofounder of Thatgamecompany, thanked his parents and his educators for helping him get where he is today. He said creating Journey was no easy task, but noted he has learned a great deal since beginning on his own journey to make the game.

The 2013 Game Developers Choice Awards was hosted by Double Fine founder Tim Schafer. Last year's winner was .

The GDC Awards were preceded by the 15th annual Independent Games Festival Awards, where Cart Life took home the Seumas McNally Grand Prize. In addition to the top prize, Cart Life--developed by Richard Hofmeier--won the excellence in narrative and nuovo award.
