GamesAsylum - Evolve - Review

GamesAsylum: "Surrounding the player in just the right amount of chaos is a tricky task. If things get too hectic then all sense of being in control is lost and the player will no doubt feel frustrated as a result. If a developer gets it right though, controlled chaos can be a wonderful thing. Titanfall creators Respawn managed to achieve this perfectly the AI soldiers running amok made the battlefields feel suitably busy. Their presence never affected the chances of survival as they were little more than cannon fodder. Turtle Rock Studios of Left 4 Dead fame has adapted a similar approach for Evolve, providing a range of vicious beasts to shoot when the player-controlled Monster isnt present"

Evolve Review (GameWatcher)

From GameWatcher.com: "Elephant in the room first: through one of the worst marketing campaigns in gaming history Evolve has become a highly controversial game. While the base game is a fun little asymmetrical multiplayer game from Turtle Rock, the makers of Left 4 Dead, 2Ks marketing has painted it as a vessel to sell DLC. Moreover, the spread of different conflicting purchase options available takes the sound idea of dont confuse the consumer and shoots it into space, including more than one special edition depending on your system and store, many different DLC packs, an expensive Season Pass that seems to only add skins and a few new Hunters, and thats even before you install the game. To make it clear though, while I think the way 2K have handled all this is abysmal I will not be docking points off the score for it unless I feel the base game is noticeably lacking those DLC items. Lets see."

Evolve Review | Game Druid

Evolve by Turtle Rock Studios is one of those games, for me, has really re-defined the multiplayer concept. The premise of Evolve is 4 vs 1 where 4 players are essentially hunting 1 monster. You can either be the hunter, or the hunted.

Somewhere between the initial conceptualization process and the later stages of development, the opportunity for Turtle Rock Studios promising new multiplayer concept to transform into a full-fledged, consumer-ready product almost met the chopping block before it was ever fully realized. After barely escaping the devastating collapse of publisher THQ and suffering from a grueling five year development cycle, the studio responsible for the critical and commercial success of the original Left 4 Dead is finally ready to completely unveil the one project theyve been viciously fighting tooth and nail to see released: Evolve.

ZTGD | Evolve (XB1) Review

Added: 17.02.2015 15:10 | 1 views | 0 comments

The concept behind Evolve was always intriguing to me. The asymmetrical design of its battles was something new and fresh. Plus, who doesn't want to be a giant fire-breathing monster? It also helps that the developer Turtle Rock Studios created one of the best co-op experiences of last generation with Left 4 Dead. I went in blind with Evolve. Unlike most of the gaming population I never touched the beta or alpha, I didn't watch pre-release videos and I had almost no knowledge of the game prior to release. My first few matches were frustrating. I was dominated by the monster. Scavenging the map, trying to locate it before it evolved tested my patience, and then I discovered what I was doing wrong.

Evolve Developer Teases Ranked Games, Spectator Mode, Free Maps and new Game Mode

Given its recent controversy over microtransactions and a pay-to-win mentality, Evolve is a strong game on the receiving end of immense scrutiny. Its a breath of fresh air then, that developer Turtle Rock Studios will release all their DLC for free; the first set of which a developer is teasing already.

Evolve Review / 1080Players

Imagine the ultimate game of hide and seek with guns and a monster. That's just a little glimpse of Evolve. Turtle Rock has beautifully crafted this game with great ambitions and have delivered one great game. Normally with a developer with this big of a scope of a game, there's bound to be a lot of scaling back but you don't encounter that with Evolve.

Discussing Evolve: Part 1 DLC

Added: 17.02.2015 8:10 | 2 views | 0 comments

Evolve has drawn criticism from gamers and game journalists, primarily because of the downloadable content (DLC) strategy that has been employed for the game. A good example of this criticism, in part because it cites some of the other critics, is the recent Forbes article by Erik Kain. According to these criticisms, Turtle Rock, previously best known for developing Left 4 Dead with Valve, and 2K have short-changed gamers by not selling a complete game. Instead, content has been held back to be sold as DLC in a blatant attempt to milk gamers out of extra dollars. These criticisms are unfair.
