The trend during these past few weeks has been to tear Turtle Rock Studios head off for their rampant use of DLC. The main complaint is that theyre dishing out over $60 worth of additional content at launch for a full priced game that just came out.

STN Writes: Evolve is probably a good name for a title that will get better over time. When you begin and everything is locked down it's hard to be enthusiastic about it really, however once you open up the other hunters, weapons and the new monsters, things start to get a little teresting and a lot more exciting. My main worry about Evolve would be how long it can keep your attention for, because it is just essentially a game which either sees you hunt or be hunted, there's not much else to it. Could this get boring quickly? It does seem likely, but with extra content due in the future, perhaps Turtle Rock's latest will Evolve into a different beast entirely.

It's been a long time coming but Evolve is finally out. Made by Turtle Rock, the creators of Left 4 Dead. This game is a super ambitious 4vs1 asymmetrical shooter. Basically you have four hunters trying to take on a monster that will stop at nothing to Evolve and destroy them.

GR What a funny old game Turtle Rock has made. Not Joe Pesci 'I'm going to shiv you over this plate of linguini' funny. It's more 'unpredictable downright confounding, but against all olds, occasionally brilliant' funny. There's the core of a great premise here: you can't get much more viscerally primal than dudes going full Neanderthal on a 70ft squid thingie. Yet a good deal of the action you're treated to in Evolve doesn't so much court Darwinism as it burns books over a fire made from monster bones while hollering about Adam and Eve.

I knew I wouldnt be able to swap between several loadouts in-game or customize my characters armor after each round. I also knew I would spend more time on tactical actions than head-on combat. Johnny writes - "Evolve is one of those games that will either enthrall you to the point of obsession, or have you putting your shoes on the wrong feet because you cant get down to GAME fast enough to trade it in and recoup some of your money before it falls in price. I do think that it will be a big player in the Esports scene as it is a joy to watch a match where the players are communicating and actually working towards a common goal in unison. Turtle Rock Studios are definitely onto something with Evolve but its just not quite coming across at the moment, feeling repetitive after a short while running around the lush environments. My opinion is that they have a solid concept with the right feel and setting, but it just has not gelled together in the way it should. The characters need more ways of being able to become unique with a deeper set of customisation and skills to make each encounter different depending on what skills the player has either unlocked or equipped."

Turtle Rock gave us a beautiful gem of a game, but they simply didnt count on the reality of most gamers. If even the smallest element doesnt align well, Evolve becomes an un-evolved mess.
