The campaign seems to have taken a backseat to the multiplayer in terms of improvements, but its worth buying for the multiplayer alone, so theres that. Short Pause: "So I had every intention of streaming of just one hour but instead, I got completely enthralled with the gameplay and overall presentation of Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, and went on to stream for 2.5 hours instead! I'ver really enjoyed my time with this game and it further cements my stupidity for passing on the Xbox brand before this gen. I'd even go as far as to say that I prefer the Gears of War campaign and gameplay over the Halo series (so far anyways) by quite a large margin. The control scheme may seem a little dated compared to today's standards, but even then, the gameplay itself is tight and responsive, which was really surprising. I"m really looking forward to finishing through the campaign in order to prepare myself for Gears of War 4 next year. I may even fire up Gears of War 2 via backwards compatibility later this fall when the digital version becomes available; I've heard from many around the Short Pause offices that it's the best entry in the series."

The reviewer writes: "Gears of War has always been a great game. It didnt need a remaster to make it better. There would still be people buying the Xbox 360 version, especially if it came to backwards compatibility. But this new and improved version is amazing. The graphics are stunning and the gameplay is very smooth. Most remasters bring a lot of the problems from the original with them, and its rare for a remaster to truly have a next gen feeling, but this one does. This could actually pass off as a brand new game."
