Josh from Bag of Games writes "Initially revealed at E3 2010 as a FPS reboot of the beloved PC franchise X-COM incidentally before Firaxis announced their now-successful turn-based strategy game XCOM: Enemy Unknown (a reboot of 1994s X-COM: UFO Defense), 2K Marins original vision for XCOM suffered from numerous delays, the on-going threat of cancellation, and even an apparent identity crisis during its development cycle before finally reemerging from the cold, uninviting confines of videogame limbo as a reinvigorated, third-person squad-based shooter promptly renamed The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. While it might always remain a mystery whether this drastic design overhaul was initiated in hopes of potentially gaining the approval of the classic strategy series more vocal diehard enthusiasts, one things for sure: 2K Marin has successfully implemented enough thought-provoking tactical opportunities and intriguing though not necessarily innovative concepts into the core of Th...

Fire Emblem: Awakening (3DS) | FTG Review

Added: 31.08.2013 20:18 | 13 views | 0 comments

FTG Writes: Like a good number of you out there, last years surprise hit XCOM: Enemy Unknown provided me an excellent re-introduction to turn-based strategy games. So naturally, when I finally decided to pick up a 3DS XL, the first game that caught my eye was Fire Emblem: Awakening. The latest in a long-running series of Japanese strategy role-playing games, Fire Emblem: Awakening bucked a few franchise trends in order to appeal to its broader handheld audience. For series vets, that type of thinking is borderline hypocrisy. However, in lowering the barrier of entry while simultaneously upholding its hardcore tactical roots, Fire Emblem: Awakening creates a smart mix of deep, yet accessible combat that gamers of all stripes can enjoy.

PCGamer- The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Review

PCG:The Bureau: XCOM Declassified underwent a tumultuous, prolonged development, so its understandable that some of its pieces are polished but so few of them fit together. The resulting puzzle-piece jumble is best forgotten in favor of last years far-superior XCOM: Enemy Unknown or other recent third-person action games like Mass Effect 3 or Saints Row IV.

Serving as a prequel of sorts to the long-running XCOM series, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified attempts to fuse the strategic elements of turn-based tactical alien zap-em-up XCOM: Enemy Unknown with a third-person shooter. Unfortunately, while there are glimmers of entertainment, the concept doesn't quite coalesce into a cohesive whole.

ZTGD | The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Review

Drew Leachman writes: Up until Enemy Unknown, I had never heard of the XCOM series. After playing and absolutely loving that entry, I started to pay more attention to the series overall. Even before Enemy Unknown released, 2K stated a new XCOM game was coming and was going to be a first person shooter. It has been in development for a what seems like forever and has evolved from what it was originally set out to be, but finally, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified released. The game has some substantial changes compared to Enemy Unknown, but still tries to keep some of that XCOM feel. It works in some ways, but in others it falls short.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified Review | PSX Extreme

PSXE - "XCOM: Enemy Unknown offered gamers a compelling blend of action and real-time strategy, and it was continuously intense, inventive and engaging. One wouldve hoped to find similar qualities in the recent spin-off, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, but unfortunately, it doesnt capture any of the emotional bonuses we enjoyed in Enemy Unknown."
