Otaku Dome: Video Game Violence Research has been a controversial topic over the last few years for both researchers and gamers a like, but theres a bit of ridiculousness when it comes to this research. What most of this comes down to is the Ratings System and the Parents, and theres plenty of reasons why. For one thing the ESRB, Pegi, etc system is meant to provide parents (and the gamers) with guidelines as to what they should/could be able to play and what they shouldnt. Yet every year we hear the same case about some 12 year old playing Grand Theft Auto V and then committing some heinous act of violence towards another human being.

Last week it was reported about Call of Duty fans storming and damaging the Activision booth at Milans Games Week in Italy due to a contest that promised 500 free Prestige Editions of Call of Duty: Ghosts to the first 500 fans that entered the booth. Quite obviously a barbaric horde invaded the trade show and caused quite a ruckus. Youd think that after that experience, Activision would think twice before trying the same stunt again, and youd be wrong. Exactly the same contest was repeated this morning at the Paris Games Week. It doesnt take a degree in psychology to guess that the results were very similar.
