Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 Review | D+PAD

D+PAD writes: The sniper level in Call of Duty Modern Warfare was considered one of the games highest points; its combination of stealth with setpieces despite being a highly curated experience created a tense kind of mission in a game that was rapidly redefining what a cinematic FPS could do in its use of curated setpieces. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 (or Sniper 2 for short) is a game formed entirely of these moments mixtures of tense marksmanship and frantic action in the aftermath. It is a game which, rather than offering vast selections of experiences in a kind of action buffet, focuses on simulating a single one sniping as seemingly realistic as possible. Finding the midpoint between simulation and accessibility in a game like this is crucial, and Sniper 2 succeeds only in part.

WC - Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 Review

Added: 28.03.2013 23:19 | 14 views | 0 comments

WC - Considering that I believe the stealth missions of the Call of Duty Modern Warfare franchise are some of the best the games have to offer, I came to Sniper 2 with some high expectations that on the whole didnt disappoint. However there are a few holes in both the story and the gameplay that brought it down a notch. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 follows Captain Cole Anderson on three missions, varying from urban combat in Sarajevo, the tropical jungles in Burma and the mountains of Tibet. Applying realistic bullet physics, players need to factor in distance, wind and bullet drop when sniping targets, which is assisted by a red dot that calculates all these variables for you. If you want a proper challenge, put the game on maximum difficulty and you have to judge for yourself.

Gaming Trend: "Being a Combat Controller, a Ranger, a Seal, or any other Tier 1 operator means carefully stalking, selecting, and prosecuting your target and then quietly slipping away. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 attempts to tackle the heart of that experience and wrap a game around it. Seeing the slow-motion shots land on their targets is kinda cool, and the Crytek 3 engine does make the presentation beautiful. The multiplayer experience has died on launch with a maximum of only 8 people total playing on Steam, (and all but 2 of them in private locked games) but given that Deathmatch and Team Deathmatch are the only options, it comes as no surprise. The title retails on Steam for $29.99, and for a 4 hour single player experience thats $7.50 per hour. While some aspects of the game are worthwhile on higher difficulty settings, the hand holding on Casual and Medium is excessive. All in all Im not disappointed with the title but it will sit on the shelf next to a lot of others that...

The DLC is set in an isolated Siberian location and will offer a more open world experience for solving missions. Players will not be guided and the only way to find their way through the new location is by using the map. In the remote abandoned Siberian city of Birsovik, the Russian government established a top secret military installation focused on arms RD. American intelligence gets word that the facility shifted its focus recently to weapons of mass destruction. A CIA operative, M. Diaz is sent in undercover, posing as lab personnel, to uncover the truth. When he stops sending in reports, a search mission is quickly put together. The player steps in the shoes of Cole "Sandman" Anderson, a veteran special ops sniper, now in the ranks of Task 121 -- a group put together to counter any WMD-hungry warlord's whim in the Asia -- Pacific region. Anderson is ordered to locate Diaz's GPS signal and assess the situation on the ground, then extract any intelligence he may have found.
