Wolverine screenwriter to rewrite Assassin's Creed film

Academy Award nominee Scott Frank says adapting a video game "has its own set of challenges."

Academy Award nominee Scott Frank, who most recently wrote for The Wolverine, is rewriting the script for the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie, the Hollywood veteran told Creative Screenwriting in a new interview.

"I'm rewriting Assassin#146;s Creed right now, and what I love about it is that I've never adapted a video game before and it has its own set of challenges," Frank said. "Especially in the world of rewrites, I love trying to do something completely different if I can."

Frank was nominated for a Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for 1998's Out of Sight, directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring George Clooney. He also wrote for Minority Report, Marley & Me, and Malice, among others.

The Assassin's Creed movie (Shame, Inglorious Basterds) and will be released by FOX in summer 2015.

Ubisoft has a total of six movies in the pipeline. In addition to Assassin's Creed, the French publisher is making movies based on its Far Cry, Rabbids, Watch Dogs, Splinter Cell, and Ghost Recon franchises. In all instances, Ubisoft will retain creative control.
