Winner: Super Smash Bros. for Wii U Super Smash Bros. may not be considered a core fighting genre stalwart, but its rapid acceptance into a competitive scene like EVO says something about its staying power both as a brand and as a multiplayer experience. Allowing up to eight players to fight at once, including new options for amiibo figures that learn fighting styles all their own, and driving home Wii U console viability this year makes for one smash hit. While other games in the genre allowed for mind games and new forays into digital content, there's no denying Smash Bros. either as a console exclusive to Wii U or as a portable brawler to take with you on 3DS.
