Sony looks to turn its best-selling franchise into a major movie.

Hot on the heels of Universal's The Fast & The Furious – now the studio's biggest franchise – DreamWorks' Need for Speed, and Legendary's Hot Wheels, the Sony movie will be produced by Fifty Shades of Grey duo Mike De Luca and Dana Brunetti.

Sony executives Elizabeth Cantillon, DeVon Franklin and Hannah Minghella will oversee the project.

Gran Turismo has sold in excess of 70 million copies, making it a brand recognisable worldwide.

Gran Turismo 6 will be released later this year for PS3.
