Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland Review [Capsule Computers]

Added: 03.07.2014 13:13 | 12 views | 0 comments

Travis Bruno of Capsule Computers writes: "The Atelier series has moved beyond the Arland trilogy but Gust and Tecmo Koei have kept the trilogy fresh in the minds of fans by releasing slightly enhanced versions of Atelier Totori and Atelier Meruru for the Vita last year. However unlike those two games, the title that began the Arland trilogy, Atelier Rorona, was quite primitive feeling as it lacked many of the advancements the later games in the series had."

Jae Lee writes: I remember playing Atelier Rorona when it first came out in the States sometime in 2010. It was the first Atelier for the new generation of consoles, and while it had some rather glaring flaws, I quite enjoyed my time with it regardless. Now, its been re-released with many improvements in both the graphics and game play department. While its not quite a brand new experience, its well worth checking out for veterans and newcomers alike for its new content and upgrades.

Fans of classic JRPGs will likely be divided on this one. Some will really get into the concept of the game and its lighter-minded questing which focuses largely on running a shop and appeasing the palace. Others will likely be expecting a more traditional RPG experience thats rife with combat, which in case point theyre likely to be disappointed.

Atelier Rorona Plus: The Alchemist of Arland - PS3 Review | Chalgyr's Game Room

Chalgyr's Game Room writes: The Atelier games have been around since the late 90's though they have not received much notice outside the JRPG fan base, which is tragic as the games are quite enjoyable. My first encounter with the Atelier games was either Atelier Iris: Eternal Mana or Mana Khemia: Alchemists of Al-Revis, both for the PlayStation 2 (I had picked them up at the same time and played them simultaneously) and I thoroughly enjoyed the break from the traditional JRPG style. When the opportunity to review the recent re-release of Atelier Rorona (the Plus variant) with an updated battle system amongst other items like a bonus stamp card, a handful of new costumes, as well as some reworked special attack scenes, I jumped on it.

Gamers Temple: "While Vita's Persona 4 Golden fanbase and acclaim is beyond huge, I think Sony's portable system just found its second best RPG experience in the outstanding Atelier Rorona (and by extension, Totori and Meruru)."
