Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen Xbox 360

The oddball RPG has sold its soul for more Souls.
Whatever else you might like to say about it, Dragon's Dogma was very much its own game. An Eastern take on Western fantasy RPGs, the resulting title resembled a particularly sticky wall after an idea-throwing jamboree. Tactile battle systems, graphical problems, an unexpectedly deep storyline, terrible traversal and Pawns, the brilliant asymmetric multiplayer solution, all shoved at each other to earn the player's attention. And it worked - we still haven't played anything quite like it.

HG:It's been almost a year since Dragon's Dogma landed on consoles as an alternative to major RPGs that have attracted much attention during the present generation. Oblivion, Skyrim, Demon's Souls, Dark Souls, The Witcher II are all great titles, and Capcom did not want to miss this party and thus gave us the great, though less popular unfairly, Dragon's Dogma. Now comes the revalidation with Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen, a pitch at a reduced price which includes the original title and an expansion.

EuroGamer: "Dark Arisen is indisputably in Dark Souls' thrall. But this tribute is both thoughtful and creative, building upon Miyazaki's work with some individuality rather than merely mimicking its - arguably unrepeatable - wonders. Dragon's Dogma is yet to find its true identity, but this expansion is evidence of one of Capcom's more capable remaining internal teams - as well as of a series that clearly has long-term ambitions which seem likely to blossom in time."

| Feature: Heads-up: New games out this week (April 26)

The games you can start playing at the end of this week, including Dead Island: Riptide, Star Trek and Dragon's Dogma: Dark Arisen.
'Recommended': Dead Island: Riptide - Xbox 360, PS3 and PC
For those that don't have the keenest observatory skills, you'll notice the word 'recommended' in the heading has been placed in inverted commas. This is because while Dead Island: Riptide has made it into this particular section, saying you should go out and buy it isn't the best advice you'll receive this week.
Riptide certainly isn't a bad game, but it fails to really improve on any of the problems that dragged the first entry down and, once again, decides fetch quests are the highlight of any gaming...
