BagoGames In the end, Atelier Shallie: Alchemists of the Dusk Sea is a charming JRPG with beautiful visuals and amusing game mechanics. While I can only imagine the storyline is very rich, it can be a difficult transition for newcomers to the series. The game is quirky and the characters are lovable in a way that any Anime aficionado can appreciate. For a starting price of about $50 USD, I believe its a solid buy if youre into the JRPG genre and/or you have played the previous games before this. Otherwise, you may want to consider renting it for its charming storyline and wonderful art direction.

Despite being just as old as some of the most popular Japanese role-playing game series out there (the first Atelier game shipped on PlayStation in 1997), Gusts Atelier catalog is a bit of a sleeper series. But these alchemy-focused games are well made and have unique hooks and enough charm to stand up to the bigger and better known franchises. Its a shame that theyre not more popular outside of Japan.
