FPSGuru: PAX Prime - Betrayer Preview

Added: 06.09.2013 20:20 | 12 views | 0 comments

FPSGuru, "I'm not even sure how to start with this title I came across at PAX Prime. I came in knowing a little but knowing the little I did didn't help me when I even got my hands on it. Betrayer is a first person adventure game being developed by Blackpowder Games taking place in the 17th century in which you shipwreck on the coast of Virgina. Strangely enough the world is drained of color except for the occasional bright red for emphasis. So hey, why not walk along this trail headed into a forest, I don't really have an objective or any idea what I'm supposed to do but I may as well."

PAX 2013: Betrayer Hands-On Preview | The Escapist

Added: 02.09.2013 21:18 | 11 views | 0 comments

The Escapist: "Blackpowder Games did things a little backwards with Betrayer. Development started on the game in September 2012, months before the studio itself was officially founded. In 2013, Blackpowder was finally formed around the in-development Betrayer. This approach allowed the team to "put creative control above everything else." In just one year, Blackpowder has managed to assemble a completely unique experience with their black and white core aesthetic. Check out the screenshots below for some idea of what this means for the experience. The environment is all black and white, with red being used to highlight objects of interest, from enemies to clues."

Betrayer Preview at CalmDownTom

Developer Blackpowder Games was formed from the remnants of Monolith, but Betrayer is very different to F.E.A.R. or anything else that studio made. Sure, its also frightening at times, but in a completely different way. Betrayer doesnt go for jump scares as much as it sets out to unsettle you.
