DTOID:
If you know me, you know I yearn for diversity in games and new experiences in general, which is why I jumped at the chance to review Beyond Eyes. It has people of color, the main character is blind, and the art style is beautiful.
I just wish the devs would have done more, all this wasted potential.

Nicola Ardron: "It would be safe to say that Beyond Eyes is a game that most people will struggle to appreciate. Its core premise is one that I suspect the majority of players will not hold in regard, and even if they do, the manifestation of that idea through the pace of Raes walking makes that harder to understand. Its a lovely idea, presented in a beautiful, dreamlike way, however it comes at the expense of engrossing gameplay. "

Rich at GameSpew writes: "Bored and depressed. Thats how I felt after the three hours it took me to complete this admittedly pretty and unique adventure. The fact that I was depressed is probably a good thing, as it shows that the game at least made an emotional impact, but the boredom? Well, theres no excuse for that.
Developed by Tiger Squid, a one girl game studio founded by Sherida Halatoe, Beyond Eyes has you taking control of Rae a young, blind girl that is at a loss after the disappearance of her pet cat Nani. Despite her impairment, she gathers up the courage to leave the safe confines of her yard in order to hopefully be reunited with her beloved feline, embarking on a short journey of discovery and peril."

PCGamesN:
First of all: a confession. I wasnt that impressed with the original Civilization: Beyond Earth. This sort of sequel/extension to Civilizations endgame just didnt sit right with me. It wasnt either mad enough, or relatable enough. But I think theres a core somewhere in the game that needs uncovering: something that can combine the thrill of colonisation and terraforming, with Civs relentless technological progression.

PCGamesN:
Beyond Eyes casts you as Rae, a blind girl who inhabits an idyllic walled garden but decides to leave safety and familiarity behind after her friend, a cat named Nani, stops visiting.
Its world isnt seen per se, but rather drawn in Raes head - a procedural painting assembled from the things she touches, hears, and sometimes smells. In short, its the excuse for ultra-short draw distance game designers wish theyd thought of in the 90s.

EB: Now, although the game does provide an emotional ride, as I said before, the game does go at a snails pace, and even at that pace, I probably beat the game in about an hour total, really making the $15 price tag kind of ridiculous. The effects are cool, its a really good idea, but could have been executed a little better, and really should be like five bucks, because one hour is not worth $15 for a game.
