Ian of iGR writes: "Its no secret that we have all wished someone away that was making us mad. If youd like to explore what it would be like if it actually happened, play this game. A reimaging of Press Plays Max and the Magic Marker from 2010, Max: The Curse of Brotherhood is a follow-up 2.5D side-scrolling platform game."

The sequel to Max The Magic Marker (a 2010 WiiWare downloadable title that didnt do so well and was then ported to everything except the Xbox) this adventure sees Max heading headlong into a weird and wonderful world in an attempt to save his brother from the big ghastly beast that just upped and grabbed him. The story is thin and poorly explained but whilst that can often be a hindrance here it doesnt really make a great deal of difference. Not too far into the adventure you are presented with a magic marker that can enable Max to create and delete certain items like trees, dirt and water in specific highlighted areas - what is experienced from this point on is a puzzle game with light platforming and unfortunately for all its good intentions and relatively creative puzzles, Max will drive you to rage due to the ropey controls.

Max, the protagonist of Max and the Magic Marker, searches online for a way to rid himself of his younger brother, Felix. A portal appears in their room, from which a paw emerges to steal Felix. Max follows behind before the portal closes.[5] The game has cartoon-style graphics and an upbeat soundtrack

So, generic story. Older Brother hates younger brother. Older Brother wishes the younger away. Wish comes true and younger get sucked into another dimension. Older brother regrets wishing him away and dives in the portal after him. Incoming weird and wonderful world and a quest to unite the two bickering siblings.
In terms of brotherly love, this fails to capture the genuine bond in A Tale of Two Sons released last year, but you get the gist.
The Curse of Brotherhood is a re-imagining of Max and the Magic Marker, but filled with new ideas, levels and story elements. Its a gorgeous looking game that reminds me ever-so slightly of Heart of Darkness, a little known, big-budget platformer released many years back. From the dark cartooney style, to the aura of mystery, the game plays the atmosphere card perfectly from the very beginning.

GodisaGeek: "Max: The Curse of Brotherhood oozes personality in both its design and gameplay. Sure, the idea of drawing your way out of puzzles is no longer a completely original one, but Max has puzzles that are so cleverly designed and fun to play through, that you forget this fact and focus on the fun you have solving each conundrum.
The difficulty curve is forgiving, although it does ramp up a little more toward the climax, but it never gets close to the levels of irritation that platform games of old managed. The control input method may be difficult for some, but once you get used to it, it becomes second nature and even the fastest sections wont be too demanding. Max may have been sneaked out earlier than we expected, but its a little gem that could easily be over-looked, but will reward gamers who invest their time in it."
