OXM UK - "Later on in the first level of Max and the Curse of Brotherhood, wind-swept desert sand gives way to an enormous tree. Knuckles of rune-covered stone jut from between thick, winding roots, and water cascades down the trunk as I steer the game's stubby, indefatigable hero from one branch to the next."

Ed gets to grips with what could be the most charming Xbox exclusive.
Later on in the first level of Max and the Curse of Brotherhood, wind-swept desert sand gives way to an enormous tree. Knuckles of rune-covered stone jut from between thick, winding roots, and water cascades down the trunk as I steer the game's stubby, indefatigable hero from one branch to the next. All games are capable of this sort of serenely silly fancifulness, in theory, but only platform games ever seem to make a point of it - the upside of being branded a "kiddy" genre, perhaps, is that you don't have to pay any lip service to realism.

Press Play's charming platformer mounts a surprise December release.
Well this is a bit of a turnaround. Press Play's platformer Max and the Curse of Brotherhood - tacitly expected in 2014 - will release tomorrow, 20th December, on the Xbox Live Marketplace for Xbox One. It'll cost #163;11.99, and on the basis of 45 minutes with a preview build, should be rather good.

Of course, Spencer's comment doesn't necessarily mean that a new platformer is in the works at Rare, although comments from the studio back in August (via CVG) suggested that it was keen to revisit its Banjo, Conker and Viva Pinata franchises.
"We've got ideas for most older Rare IP, you won't be surprised to hear. There's quite a lot...
