The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Review | GameSpew

The first thing that strikes you about The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is just how pretty it looks. Released last year on PC it was a graphical showcase, depicting an idyllic rural countryside that both entices you to explore yet also fills you with dread thanks to its foreboding atmosphere. In the time its taken to come to Playstation 4, its developer, The Astronauts, has seen fit to move the game over to the newer Unreal Engine 4, and judging by how great the game looks and runs, it was sure worth the wait.

Gamerant Weak voice acting and poorly written dialogue coupled with some frustrating game design choice hold The Vanishing of Ethan Carter back from its true potential. However, developers The Astronauts have proven that they know how to masterfully spin a spooky gaming tale that will stay with the player long after its over. Hopefully theyve learned from the slight missteps of Ethan Carter and will deliver an even better experience with their next effort.

A good journey with a satisfying end.

The evolution of the first-person adventure continues with The Vanishing of Ethan Carter from developer The Astronauts. Originally , there’s no real "action" to speak of which is as it should be. Even when you equip an item like a crank, it’s not used to kill the undead. Unlike Gone Home, which was set solely in a suburban home, this takes place mostly outdoors in a stunning forest town, the fictional Red Creek Valley in Wisconsin.
