Somebody apparently forgot to tell Nintendo that summer is when new game content tends to dry up, because this week’s release schedules for both the Wii U and 3DS are pretty beefy. Sure, there’s a lot of stuff here that will only appeal to a niche crowd, but there are a few solid core offerings, too. And did I mention Shovel Knight comes out this week? Because it does. A beast of a challenge.
By the time we'd tackled all ten of Blood of the Werewolf's tough-as-nails levels and bested its five brutal bosses, our thumbs were in agony. While we knew the 2D action-platformer was a throwback to classic, challenge-ratcheting games like Castlevania and Ghosts 'n' Goblins, we weren't prepared for just how much inspiration it actually took from those sadistic side-scrollers of yesteryear.
