Review: Life is Strange Episode Three: Chaos Theory (DarkZero)

Thomas McDermott: "It's a rare occurrence that I want to skip to the end whilst talking about a game for review. But in this case I have to make an exception, as there is no doubt the most important and interesting part of Episode Three of Life is Strange occurs during its final moments. The events of the last 10-or-so minutes are so compelling that I want to fill this page up with a torrent of speculation, thoughts and theories of where the story will go from here. Blurting that all out at this point would be unfair though. But let it be known I will be darting off to various forums, comment sections, and social media outlets to see how the finale is received once this episode is out in the wild. It really is a gamechanger - and I do not use that word lightly."

Chaos Theory is the branch of mathematics that deals with complex systems in which even the smallest action can have huge ramifications. By the end of Life Is Strange's third episode, the player and the character's will know this all too well.
So far Dontnod's narrative-led interactive adventure has juggled a number of elements it is part mystery, part supernatural thriller and part coming-of-age tale. Episode one, Chrysalis, set everything up with the second, Out of Time, cementing an identity for the series and its characters before reaching a powerful finale.
Episode three, Chaos Theory, explores the mystery side, with heroine Max Caulfield and her closest friend Chloe Price breaking into the high school around which the story has focused to search for clues.

Push Square: "We weren't particularly sold on the first two episodes of Life Is Strange, but we could see the kernel of potential that was hiding beneath the surface. Episode 3 Chaos Theory is where that promise finally bursts to the forefront, delivering an almost perfect balance of tense storytelling, organic dialogue, and improved gameplay all while setting up a potentially brilliant follow-up episode. This series is finally delivering what we always thought it could, and that makes us hella happy."
