Ubisoft announced the Assassin's Creed Chronicles trilogy today, a series of smaller downloadable games that will span the globe.

The first title in the series, Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, comes out on April 21. Assassin's Creed Chronciles: India and Assassin's Creed Chronicles: Russia will follow later in the year with separate releases.

PC Gamer - Assassin's Creed Chronicles consolidates the series' epic tale of parkouring and stabbing into two-and-a-half dimensions, while broadening its perspective to even more historical eras and exotic locals. Rather than focusing on just one time period, Chronicles will release in separately sold episodes, with a new character and time period for each. The first of these stars a female assassin in Ming Dynasty China, the next is set in 19th century Russia, and the third in colonial India.

Eurogamer: Surprise! Assassin's Creed: Chronicles is now three games instead of one. The previously-announced Assassin's Creed Chronicles: China, a side-scrolling action platformer developed by UK studio Climax, has now been revealed as just the first of three standalone downloadable episodes. The mini-series' China episode will debut first on 22nd April (21st April in the US) and star Ming Dynasty-era assassin Shao Jun, after her meeting with Ezio in spin-off animation Assassin's Creed: Embers. Episode two will follow with a tale set in India, 1841, featuring assassin Arbaaz Mir from the graphic novel Assassin's Creed: Brahman.

EB: Ubisoft has released new screenshots for Assassins Creed Chronicles, which is an entirely new take on the franchise as a whole. Rather than feature one assassin in a fully 3D realized world, Chronicles will feature three assassins in a 2.5D side-scrolling world with its own unique art design and visuals.
