Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth (2014) Review | FilmGamesEtc

The Civilization games have always been synonymous with the phrase one more turn, but early previews of the latest entry in the series had prompted many fans to question if one more iteration on the franchise was really needed. At a glance, Beyond Earth looks alarmingly similar to its predecessor Civilization 5 especially when considering the jump in visuals and mechanics from Civilization 2 and onwards. However, as more time is spent, turn after turn, progressing through Beyond Earth, the differences between these games began to appear more readily. New Gamer Nation writes: "When you think about some of the best and far-reaching strategy games out there, most gamers are going to immediately identify with the Civilization series. This series has single-handedly changed the way strategy games worked for years, and after a lengthy hiatus, we finally get a new game from Firaxis. While this isnt the traditional Civilization set up, it is more-or-less the spiritual successor to 1999s Sid Meiers Alpha Centauri. In other words, we have a 4x strategy space sim that keeps what you love about Civilization and takes it to places the series has never been. Its ambitious, its different and its great."
