Roman tablet? Why Ryse's use of SmartGlass on Xbox One is "natural" - not a gimmick

"This is the level of implementation you can expect from the majority of first party titles.".
It's taken me a while to warm up to Ryse: Son of Rome's Xbox One SmartGlass features. I like how they work on paper, but they seem troublingly out of synch with the game's fiction - how are players supposed to feel steeped in that lush barbaric world, if you're going to urge them to pull out a smartphone or tablet? But I'm perhaps being over-sensitive - as is my wont - and at the end of the day, Ryse's SmartGlass features are optional. Here's a little chat with Justin Robey, Microsoft's senior producer, about how Crytek and the manufacturer have made those touchy-feely auxiliary mechanisms feel like a natural extension of the game.

"You get little differences you have to adjust for".
I pity the female characters in free-to-play shooter Warface. Not only have they apparently been created for the sole purpose of titillation, but they're being sent off to fight severely under-dressed and lacking in any semblance of body armour. With the winter months fast approaching, I get cold just by not having the top button on my coat done up.

The skins in question depict women with low cut tops, exposed waists and have been deemed anatomically disproportionate by some critics.
In a Wired interview, lead producer Joshua Howard stressed that the female skins were based on feedback from Russian and Chinese players, and that their design will changed based on what is asked for in each territory. He added that the design is Russian-led.

Shooter sequel to be set in New York?
VG247 claims that the "work-in-progress" images form part of a "promotional handout", and appear to suggest that part of the game will be set in New York. One image, which shows a van parked down a destroyed street, appears to feature the Empire State Building in the background.
If true, the setting would mark a fresh location for the series. The first game, developed by defunct developer Kaos Studios, saw players trying to retake San Francisco from the Korean People's Army.
Last week, Crytek said that it was "making great progress" on Homefront 2, which is expected...

Ryse: Son of Rome looks to be one of the games Microsoft hopes is a system seller for the Xbox One. The impressive visuals provided by developer Crytek definitely will catch peoples eyes, but can the actual game draw in players with its ancient Roman setting?
Combat itself was better than expected, Ryse plays a bit like a modern brawler. While combat isnt as fast for fluid as say, God of War, it is satisfying. Using both a sword and shield you can perform light, heavy, and special attacks. Timing blocks with the shield allow you to parry and weakened enemies can be finished to the delight of the crowd.
