I can state this with some certainty because the original State of Decay was conceived as the precursor to a State of Decay MMO, code-named "Class 4". The idea, I understand, was to established the IP, build up a little experience on consoles and make a bit of pocket money during Class 4's gestation. Undead Labs remains tight-lipped on multiple unannounced Microsoft exclusives.
Should it ever come into existence, State of Decay 2 would "clearly" release on Xbox One, Undead Labs co-founder Jeff Strain told the world in June last year. Alas, it appears the same isn't true of the original State of Decay - a port would be "a pretty big technical challenge", and the developer has other, unannounced fish to fry.
