MMGN: Defiance is a bland but still fun co-op shooter. Played with that in mind, the hours will whittle away thanks to a never-ending stream of quests and side missions until the terrible AI drives you away. MMO players are likely to be disappointed by its many shortcomings, but console gamers have little else on offer. As for its transmedia experiment with the TV show, Defiance is yet to really demonstrate how the two will collaborate, and therein lies the untapped potential. For now, Defiance is an enjoyable experience thats underdeveloped at every turn.

UST:As long as Trion World can smooth out technical issues in a timely manner, Defiance could serve as a gratifying interactive companion to the SyFy television show and even stand on its own merit as an open-world, multi-platform online shooter.

Console Monster: "I find myself thinking about the game and wanting to play when I am not at my Xbox and I am enjoying exploring the world so its obviously doing something right. I just hope that now we have seen the first episode of the show (which in my opinion was a good start to a TV series) that this and the show continue and live up to their potential. This is a great starting block for what future MMO gaming and online gaming could be like on consoles and while some seasoned MMO players may be left wanting more, for me its enjoyable enough."

Any resistance found comes, surprisingly, from the writing. The characters that inhabit Defiance are routinely frustrating, with the cheesy sci-fi dialogue and painful characterisations often forcing you to reach for the mute button it certainly doesnt make us excited for the upcoming TV series. Still, its easy enough to ignore the terrible story and get on with what Defiance does best: letting you bask in the glory of marauding through a vast open world with an army of players sitting (silently) by your side."

I don't really know how to describe the concepts at play to someone that isn't at least sort of familiar with it already - but I'm going to try. 'Sharks in Winter Solstice,' the first major update to "Defiance," was added just days ago. This followed the first two episodes' pursuits for the Armistice Festival, but that's not all that has been added to the game. Alongside the update to "Defiance," new outfits are now available in the Defiance Store. Not to mention, a new set of fixes were patched in today on the PC and Xbox 360 servers. Today's update; however, is all about fixes. Particular scopes have been fixed, certain contracts should be working correctly, and grouping for Shadow War has been addressed. It's also important to note that the frequency at which armistice emergencies occur has been increased with today's update.
