While it is far from perfect in its current condition, and the possibility for it to improve is a great incentive, the reality of it as it now stands is that it still is a very competent game that fans of the genre should check outso long as they understand from the beginning that patches, updates, server downtime, lag and/or general internet problems are going to be an issue periodically through its life. But Defiance is the first attempt to create a fiction that exists across TV and videogame media simultaneously, and the promise made by production company Syfy and developer Trion Worlds is that players actions will affect the direction of the series further down the line.

Defiance, the new MMO-shooter from Trion Worlds, has had the same ups and downs as any other MMO during it's first week of launch. Server downtime, gamers not receiving pre-order bonuses on time, and other issues have occurred. Today, the game's executive produce, Nathan Richardson, issued an apology to early players for the game's problems and is also rewarding them with free items.

PCG:Around a dozen hours into my time with Defiance, I realised that I was having fun. Not the kind of fun that warrants an unreserved recommendation, but I had acclimated to the vagaries of Trions sci-fi MMO shooter in such a way that I was getting something out of it. My early impressions, however, were not good. When I started playing, I scooted around on a quadbike and blasted mutants and noticed all of the games faults.
