Added: 18.05.2015 20:17 | 16 views | 0 comments

Nintendo Life: At this year's E3, Nintendo will be resurrecting a special event which first took place 25 years ago. The 1990 Nintendo World Championships captured the hearts and minds of an entire generation of players and have since passed into video gaming folklore, arguably laying down the foundations for modern-day eSports. However, what is slightly less well known is that Nintendo followed up the 1990 event with another contest four years later, dubbed Nintendo PowerFest '94. Mike "Qik" Iarossi was crowned the National Champion after defeating Brandon Veach via a head-to-head high score challenge on Donkey Kong Country.

Backlog Update: I Have No Interest In Finishing Donkey Kong 64

Collect-a-thons are not fun. Sorry, Banjo fans, but the start of that racing game thing Microsoft made was on the money. Seriously though. DK64 is like a microcosm of game collecting in general. Its really fun, but it goes fucking nowhere, and that feeling of, Wait, why am I doing this? haunts the whole game like a canker sore on the tip of your tongue.

A Rare breed: Six studios that were created by ex-Rare employees | G4@Syfygames

Jason Clement of G4@Syfygames writes "There are few video game developers these days that are quite so beloved and storied as Rare, but also the source of much contention between fans. The company that exists today is largely not the same one that was creating games 20 years ago, a fact that has especially divided fans of their earlier games. However, few can deny that they're responsible for some of the most classic games from the past 30 years. From R.C. Pro-AM to Battletoads, Donkey Kong Country to Banjo-Kazooie, GoldenEye to Perfect Dark, and Conker's Bad Fur Day to Viva Pinata, Rare was virtually untouchable for a period of time where the quality of their games was rarely (if ever) called into question."
