Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze Review (MasonicGamer)

MasonicGamer: Despite being one of the biggest names in gaming, Donkey Kong usually gets his ass handed to him and is constantly overlooked. The original 1981 arcade classic titled Donkey Kong wasnt even its own game to begin with, it was the result of Nintendos attempt to convert unsold Radar Scope arcade cabinets into something that would hopefully be more successful.
As popular as the original Donkey Kong proved to be, it certainly didnt help Donkey Kongs reputation that the then named Jumpman featured in the game would go on to spawn the most successful gaming franchise of all time with the Mario games. It also didnt help that Rare would later ret-con Donkey Kong in order to imply that it was Cranky and not Donkey Kong that was actually featured in the 1981 game.

Paul from DJ Podcast writes "Donkey Kong is back and in the most spectacular fashion and yet somewhat difficult manner. Its been a while since Ive chased down so many bananas and had relatives jumping on my shoulders, however Donkey Kong Tropical Freeze will see you do this in spades. This and a whole lot more platforming adventure is what Tropical Freeze is all about, and in short youll go ape."

"Whether playing solo or with the added chaos of a friend, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze loads a heap of challenge and enormous amounts of post game added content into an initial 10hour playthrough. Boss battles are mostly a highlight, while the odd longer loading time does little to dampen what is an otherwise exciting and beautiful experience. Wii U owners if youre looking for that next big game to further justify your console purchase, then look no further than Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze."

Kurt Germer: "Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze is a game that cannot be missed. The craftsmanship of this game is second to none and can compete with the best 2D platformers of all time. If you ever found yourself asking, Why cant gaming be like this today?, just remember that your wish has been granted."

"The gaming industry market is filled with gorgeous and exciting 2D platformers nowadays, whether its Rayman, Donkey Kong or Meat Boy, they make gamers relive the simple but pure joy of two-dimensional space. Ive put many hours into games like Limbo and Rayman Origins/Legends and though Im not a true hardcore platformer player at heart, Im beginning to get the hang of it. And so Ive taken up Capcoms Dustforce with an open mind and an excited appetite for jumping and vaulting obstacles."
