This morning, Wizards of the Coast announced that 13 classic Advanced Dungeon Dragons games are now available on GOGs digital storefront. The package includes the three Forgotten Realms collections, spanning releases from Strategic Simulations, Inc.s (SSIs) 1988s Gold Box-kickoff Pool of Radiance to 1994s rather forgettable Menzoberranzan.

This aint no Etrian Odyssey.
Sometimes, it happens that I play multiple games in a row of a specific genre or style. And it actually can help me to approach a new game, since Ill have a point of comparison. I mean, Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold was a game I had a lot of time to play, and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. Im still firing it up to keep advancing through dungeons, fighting monsters, getting stronger. Even the story's characters, somewhat-standard archetypes for a dungeon-crawler, were filled with cheeky and personal dialogue that made them feel unique, characters I didnt mind spending so much time with and weren't simple one-dimensional personality stand-ins.

I love it when a game surprises me.
I'd known about Dungeon Travelers 2 for a while, but to be perfectly blunt, it looked like it was going to be a cash-in sold on the scantily-clad anime girls in every screenshot. I mean, I knew that it was ostensibly a dungeon crawler, but between the copious amounts of TA dominating pre-release info and the fact that Etrian Odyssey series has had the crawl niche on lockdown for a while, I didn't think it could be a serious contender.

The kingdom of Romulea is in peril. Monsters are leaking out of every nook and cranny in the land, and have started an uprising against humanity.
Players take on the role of Fried, an adventurer from the Royal Library sent to stop the uprising. But early in his journey, he discovers a broken shrine along the way. This sets in motion the story, where Fried travels around the kingdom, and through rescuing, defeating, or bumping into any of the 16 unique girls that can to join his party, he is on a mission to save the world.
Set in a first-person perspective with turn-based combat, players will encounter normal monsters as well as more powerful mutant girls, who must be sealed away to prevent the spread of the evil monster scourge.
Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library the Monster Seal is now available on PSVita.

GU:
Atluss newest release, Dungeon Travelers 2: The Royal Library and the Monster Seal, is the third title the publisher has released from developer Aquaplus. The first game was fighting game AquaPazza, followed by strategy RPG Tears to Tiara II: Heir of the Overlord. Changing things up, Dungeon Travelers 2 is a dungeon RPG. The PlayStation Vita has become known for this type of genre in particular, but often times theres a healthy dose of fan service thrown into the mix. With this being also present in Dungeon Travelers 2, does it cause the core gameplay to suffer like it has in other games of that ilk?

Fight monsters, complete quests and rescue kittens in this exciting RPG Runner!
All of our kittens have been kit-napped! Only you are noble and foolish enough to try an attempt at rescuing them all. Try to slay the big evil lava goat that lives in the center of the planet while you're down there, too. We can't pay you for your efforts, but we do have a fancy coffin lined up for you in the event that we can find what remains of your carcass. Good luck! :3

Jae Lee writes: Before starting this review in earnest, I must admit to being exposed to a lot of negative comments about this game from a variety of sources prior to playing it.
From the topic of how the game was censored, its excessive reliance on fan service and overall lackluster gameplay, I went into this expecting a disaster.
For those that would point out that its best to stay away from other peoples opinions on a game before reviewing it, I would say that I agree wholeheartedly.
However, such a notion is better suited to a world of fantasy, as its nigh impossible to control what I end up reading at times, especially if its about a title I didnt plan on covering from the get-go.
With that out of the way, after spending some time braving the dungeons of DT2, Im happy to report that the game is actually not terrible.
