Coming off Gamescom, one of the biggest (and most controversial) announcements was Microsoft claiming Square and Crystal Dynamics Rise of the Tomb Raider. Siliconera: Rise of the Tomb Raider wont be released until Holiday 2015, but Crystal Dynamics do have a Tomb Raider game coming later this year as well. Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiristhe second game in the Lara Croft seriesis a cooperative action game where 2-4 players can team up to solve puzzles and take down enemies as they explore tombs. The catch is that the Lara Croft in Temple of Osiris isnt the same one as in Rise of the Tomb Raider. Shes a simpler version of the character, whos somewhere in between the old and new Lara Crofts. Legends of the Hidden Temple?

No one expected to work—Tomb Raider fans most of all. Who knew the idea of a third-person isometric title with puzzles, light platforming, and barrages of pistol fire would be received well by both fans and critics alike? By all accounts, this could have easily been a game that people would remember as a nifty spin-off, a standalone proof of concept. But luckily, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are expanding the franchise behind the one-hit wonder with Lara Croft and the Temple of Osiris.

The major upgrade from the original is the introduction of four-player cooperative action, starring the titular British archeologist and a strapping upstart named Carter Bell, who reaches the legendary Staff of Osiris in the Egyptian Temple of Set before she does. Of course, this sets off a chain reaction of epic proportions and releases an ancient evil, the god of chaos otherwise known as Set, from the crypt. (Haven't they watched The Mummy? Bad things happen when you touching anything in an Egyptian tomb.)

Video Games Made Me Do It: "Earlier in the week, Microsoft revealed the surprising news that Rise of The Tomb Raider, the much-anticipated sequel to Crystal Dynamics 2013 hit, would be arriving exclusively on Xbox platforms. The announcement was a stunner because the days of third-party console exclusives have been abandoned in recent years, remembered as a relic of consoles past."
