Gamebreak: Tomb Raider

Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics have done an incredible job once again to deliver a very eye catching and action packed game. Tomb Raider is a reboot of the franchise as well as a prequel. To take a change in direction for such a well known franchise is a big step this day and age, take Devil May Cry for example. Although there wasnt as much controversy over the appearance of the new Lara there was definite talks about the game being a carbon copy of currently existing third person shooter adventure games. In my first my play through, I was able determine that this is most definitely not a carbon copy of any game. Perhaps the borrowing of elements exist (which is pretty common in all games), but Tomb Raider most definitely is a title that stands on its own.

For the latest iteration in the old franchise, Crystal Dynamics opted to reboot the character entirely, as well as the series itself. But it wasnt the first time Lara Croft had been put through the creative grinder in order to rejuvenate the franchise; the last time it happened was back in 2006 with Tomb Raider Legend, a game that although not rebooting the character, changed the whole direction for the series.''

Tomb Raider is a bold party mix of every action-adventure game

VB - Ill admit right now that Ive never played a Tomb Raider game before. I grew up in an age of Nintendo, so I dont know much about protagonist Lara (Lare-uh? Lahr-uh? Laura?) Crofts past romps through strange jungles and crypts. In fact, all I can remember growing up was gawking at the ridiculousness of her character model. So, when I heard that Crystal Dynamics decided to fully reboot the action-adventure franchise, I had no reaction at all.
