Tomb Raider is a bold party mix of every action-adventure game

VB - Ill admit right now that Ive never played a Tomb Raider game before. I grew up in an age of Nintendo, so I dont know much about protagonist Lara (Lare-uh? Lahr-uh? Laura?) Crofts past romps through strange jungles and crypts. In fact, all I can remember growing up was gawking at the ridiculousness of her character model. So, when I heard that Crystal Dynamics decided to fully reboot the action-adventure franchise, I had no reaction at all.

"At this time there are no plans for single player DLC.".
You can't make a sequel to your Tomb Raider prequel, Crystal Dynamics. That's just... wrong, like Marty McFly sleeping with his own mother. Alas, this unnatural prospect is a very probable one, according to global brand director Karl Stewart.

Crystal Dynamics rules out single-player DLC for Lara's latest.
"There are currently no plans in place for any Single Player expansions," said Tomb Raider's global brand director Karl Stewart in a Reddit AMA. "All of our DLC is based around the Multiplayer experience for now."
The news may disappoint some fans who had been hoping for additional tombs to explore in the game's single-player.
Earlier this month, a screengrab taken from one of the game's promotional videos suggested that additional single-player DLC could be on the way. By the sounds of things, that won't be the case.
The studio doesn't have any plans to...

DaxGamer's Ed: "The name Lara Croft has been a house hold name in the gaming industry since debuting in 1996 with titles being released for the Sega Genesis, Playstation, Playstation 2, PC, PCS3, Xbox 360, Wii PSP. The games were a mixture of action, platforming and puzzle solving with the latter being the main focus for the franchise. The series would enjoy its fair share of success however; it has stumbled with recent releases with the exception of the Tomb Raider Legend and 2008s Tomb Raider Underworld. Five years later and we have a new Tomb Raider title albeit a reboot for the long running franchise. The newest title is the 5th in the series to be developed by Crystal Dynamics and attempts to take Lara Croft back to her roots. Is the latest release the much needed revival that gamers have been waiting for?"

Game Informer - Crystal Dynamics is best known for their work on Tomb Raider, Legacy of Kain, and Gex. One of their Playstation titles is rarely talked about when discussing the company's history, and that's the action platformer Akuji the Heartless. We were curious to revisit the title to see if it was an underappreciated gem, so we picked it for this week's Replay.

GodisaGeek: "Godcast regulars Adam Cook and Calvin Robinson are out on this one with Ding!s Martin Baker and Saint Greensies Colm Ahern joining returning Godcast regular Lee Garbutt for some discussion on all the latest releases. Colms been playing the charming Lego City Undercover, whilst Lee revisits God of War HD and picks up the ridiculously titled Castlevania: Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate. Also, Martins perception of Tomb Raider has been changed as Crystal Dynamics have made him a believeroh, and something about 4 Pics, 1 Word."

When a company announces that they are rebooting a cherished franchise, they have a very fine line to walk. Mess with the core concept of the franchise and consumers wont be happy, but dont alter the franchise enough and customers will think that you were not being creative and the reboot was a waste. Its been a long time since we last saw Lara Croft in a full-fledged adventure. Thankfully, Crystal Dynamics and Square-Enix took their time in rebooting the classic franchise and delivered one of the best games of 2013.

| Whatever Happened To... The Legacy of Kain
Added: 18.03.2013 12:19 | 5 views | 0 comments
With the Twilight fervor/hatred dying down in recent months, its the perfect time to resurrect a video game vampire series that hasnt been seen in quite some time. The Legacy of Kain series, developed first by Silicon Knights and later by Crystal Dynamics, spanned from 1996 to 2003. The events of the series were largely influenced or directly impacted by the titular character, Kain. At one time, Kain was a regular human being (a wealthy man or a noble, if memory serves) who was murdered and cursed to return to the living world as a vampire to seek revenge on his killers. These earlier events in the life of Kain were detailed in the first game, Blood Omen: Legacy of Kain.
