| Gears of War: Ultimate Edition Review A Solid Remaster I The Koalition

Richard Bailey Jr. of The Koalition writes:
When the original Gears of War debuted on the Xbox 360 way back in November of 2006, Epic Games succeeded in creating a military stylized third-person shooter that depicted a brutal war between soldiers and creatures. This popular title laid the groundwork for several more sequels in the series and established the Xbox franchise as a worthy addition next to the likes of Halo and Forza Motorsport.
Nearly 9 years later, The Coalition has taken on the task of remastering this game before shifting all of their focus towards the next installment in the series. The end result is an exceptional remaster and one of the best Xbox One console exclusives currently on the market. Here are few more reasons why Gears of War: Ultimate Edition is worth the $39.99 price tag attached to it.

DC:
Gear up, soldier! War is upon us for the first time... again. The Coalition, subsidiary workhouse of Microsoft Studios, has taken up the mantle to continue the heralded Gears of War franchise, following in the combat boot steps of Epic Games and People Can Fly. While the series' next chapter, Gears 4, is slated for next year, our 2015 GoW on Xbox One appetites are whetted with Gears of War: Ultimate Edition. A 1080p, 60fps re-release of the 2006 classic that expanded Microsoft Studios' shooter prestige and gave the 360 its first true exclusive franchise boon.

Tanya Valdez writes: It is the perfect time to bring the game that started the series back in 1080P and includes a multiplayer that is promised to run at 60 frames per second. Being beautifully retold, the aesthetics bring the story back to life for fans and newcomers to the series alike. Not only does Gears of War: Ultimate Edition include the original Gears of War game, but also all-new campaign content that meshes perfectly into the original story of the game and some additions to the multiplayer action, including plenty of multiplayer maps.

GA:
Its a little hard to believe that its been 9 years since the Gears of War franchise launched on Xbox 360 with the release of the first Gears of War from developer Epic Games. But here we are, 4 games later, and looking at a modernized version of the first game redeveloped by The Coalition, the new gatekeepers of the Gears franchise for Microsoft. Releasing for Xbox One this week, Gears of War: Ultimate Edition sports some spruced up graphics, with a much steadier framerate on both the single and multiplayer sides of the fence. Is it a pretty clear step up from the original? Yeah, I think so. Will it blow you away in a manner that other remakes and HD ports havent? Probably not.

Cubed:
Back in 2006, the original Gears of War was the killer app for the Xbox 360. Cliff Blezenski, the designer, took gameplay concepts and ideas from tried and true titles like Kill Switch's cover-based mechanics that were not popular at the time, as well as the off-centre, over-the-shoulder camera perspective, and elaborate melee kills from the Shinji Mikami masterpiece, Resident Evil 4. With these influences, Epic Games would use its Unreal Engine, which was then known for being used exclusively for Unreal Tournament games, to craft a third-person shooter with visuals unseen by the world. The original Gears of War was one of the most important titles on the Xbox 360, which helped secure a strong install base, as well as set the trend of so many future action games that would follow during that generation. Now that Gears of War has been remastered as Gears of War: Ultimate Edition, it is no surprise that this version is gorgeous, but just how well has the gameplay aged? Find ou...
