Back on track: Codemasters' Autosport is a solid return to form for the GRID series, but some minor issues cause a few stumbles.
Autosport certainly feels like a love letter to its fanbase, a thinly-veiled apology for the misguided GRiD 2. It offers motorheads the chance to race across over 100 different routes through 22 locations in Endurance, Touring, Tuner, Street and Open Wheel events, as well as the GRID Grand Slam, which combines races from all five race types once you reach certain XP milestones.
No matter which race you’re in, or where you are on the track, you’re guaranteed to be involved in high-octane, wheel-to-wheel action. Cars will spin-out, smash into you and offer a challenge that...

One Hit Pixel: "GRID Autosport fails to provide the quality to match its quantity, touting a huge amount of content but never delivering anything substantial."

OnlySP: Did I have some fun with GRID Autosport? Yes. I just struggle to think of who this game is for. It is too hardcore for the casual fans and too casual for the hardcore fans. If youre still sticking with your trusty Xbox 360 and PS3 and you need a simulation racer (and youre bored with Forza or Gran Tourismo), this might be able to hold you over until you decide to make the next-gen leap. Otherwise, you might want to hold off and see what else comes out of the pipe.

The tone has changed with Grid Autosport. Gone is the raucous, obtrusive, personality-sapping hullabaloo of the poorly conceived and painfully stereotypical "dude bro" aesthetic that characterised In order to master drift events, you must get to grips with cars that are extremely twitchy, the backend flying out wildly at the slightest opportunity. In the end, I decided that the only option was to hang back and drive across the grass to avoid trouble, losing time on the leaders but keeping my car intact. Stronger AI could have provided a more realistic front for the technical disciplines, and would have helped make each event feel more unique, limiting the instances such as this in which it's almost impossible to continue to suspend your disbelief. This failing is possibly a byproduct of Autosport's exhaustive approach. There are a number of nice extra features that similar games have shied away split-screen multiplayer, for example, and an online component that is entirely separate from the single-player, which means there are essentially two games to progress through. Play it for a few hours, and the cracks begin to show, though. They're not game-breaking, but they are abrasive, and they dull the shine of the early portions of the game. If you're up for some casual racing, Autosport is a decent option, but when you go deep, the experience is soured by the finer details.
