Gamereactor TV interview creative director Jens Matthies about the story and premise of Wolfenstein: The New Order.
"I think there are many, many examples of wildly broad audience projects that are really clever and have something interesting to say. That's not to say that you necessarily have to be pretentious about it. Sometimes you just want a big fucking gun and shoot some shit, you know."

If it's possible for a wide-eyed dreamer and a logic-minded pragmatist to coexist in the same brain, you can find them in the mind of Jason Citron. You can hear both sides of this seemingly oxymoronic arrangement emerge when listening to him talk about his current company, Hammer & Chisel, and the game he's hoping will have core gamers logging hours of play on their tablets, Fates Forever. Citron's status as a visionary in the mobile gaming space is undeniable. As the founder and CEO of Aurora Feint, he was a bona fide App Store pioneer, getting the game of the same name into the very first wave of apps to hit the storefront. He's probably even better known as the developer of OpenFeint, the late, mostly lamented social platform that was purchased by GREE in 2011 only to be shut down 20 months later. With time and money to plan his next venture, it wasn't long before Citron got the itch to dive back into gaming. But as a self-described core gamer, he has a different goal in mind for Hammer & Chisel. He wants to prove that the same kind of experience that people have come to expect from consoles or PCs is possible on tablets. |

| After a rough year, GREE still goes big at Tokyo Game Show
Added: 05.10.2013 8:18 | 7 views | 0 comments
SD writes: Back in 2011 the Tokyo Game Show was GREEs coming out party, with the company planting a very big footprint in the gaming world quite literally too, occupying about 10% of the entire floorspace. That exhibition was interpreted by some to be more political than practical, a show of power from a company poised to take over the world via smartphones.
Skip to 2013 and we find that GREE, while still a mobile powerhouse, has had to scale things back.

GREE's upcoming Call to Arms isn't attempting to reinvent the wheel. It's simply aiming to be a higher-quality wheel that will be appreciated by a wider array of wheel enthusiasts, and roll better on whatever terrain it is placed. Time is the only way we'll know for sure if people want to invest in a new wheel, but GREE's efforts and little changes to the design are great steps in the right direction. The wheel I speak of, of course, is Supercell's We recently had an opportunity to briefly speak with members of the Call to Arms development team and check out a bit of the gameplay. They weren't shy about their similarities to Clash of Clans, having even name dropped it a couple times during our discussion. During our first glance at the game, the similarities were unmistakably similar, as well. Base construction, resource gathering, army building, and even battles don't really do much to separate this game from its inspiration. However, GREE has been putting effort into the details. |

| GREE's upcoming RTS Call to Arms brings you the best military tech of the 70's, 80's, and today

GREE chose a quiet bar in a back alley of San Francisco to unveil one of its latest projects Call to Arms, the first real-time strategy game to launch under the GREE banner.
Featuring cute, almost chibi, units, it'd be easy to dismiss Call to Arms as another cartoony RTS title, but there's a lot going on underneath the glossy paintjob to lure casual and core players alike into the fold.

Neither zombie games nor card battle games are strangers to mobile. The two genres have even managed to cross paths in the past. Now, mobile game company GREE International is working on Beyond the Dead, a free-to-play game that looks to take some elements of card battles, zombie games, and traditional social games, and combine them in one big post-apocalyptic wasteland.

| Strider - Preview

I am but a passing wind.
The first time I encountered Strider Hiryu was in the original where he instantly captured my heart with his potential for long combos, wall-climbing, and lovable robot companions. Though at the time I didn't know anything about Flying Dragon's debut as a manga character in 1988 or as a beloved character in the arcade, Strider became one of the better reasons for my love of all things ninja. Since then, he has been seen in various crossover Capcom titles in strategic and fighting capacities, but for the last two decades or so, he's never been the star of his own title. Developer GRIN attempted to bring Strider back to the fray with a remake in 2009 but that was regrettably canceled. Luckily, Double Helix and Capcom have decided that now is the time for him to return in all his glory.
Giving me the chance to play through the Strider demo that was available at the recent Tokyo Game Show, Capcom is bringing a much needed reboot to the Strider series while keeping its hallmark 2D platforming action. As a futuristic ninjitsu practitioner, Strider remains as one of the swiftest agents around, with daring, multi-directional flips, a cypher blade that can be swung as fast as the player can press the attack button, and a sturdy claw that makes quick work of walls and ceilings.

The first title coming out of GREE's new Vancouver studio, Beyond the Dead looks to offer something for everyone. Speaking with the developers, the early launch of the game is going to ship with an extensive array of single player modes, as well as a more toned-down approach at multiplayer battles. During our hands-on session, multiplayer was limited to a screen showing portraits of each player's team of five characters, and then showing which player won the battle. There wasn't much to look at as far as the battles were concerned, but we've been told the plan is to roll out more depth after release.
