Added: 12.08.2015 10:18 | 11 views | 0 comments

Callum at GameSpew writes: "This is how the world ends. This is how the world ends. This is how the world ends with a bang, a whimper, and aliens abducting octopi. Yes, it really is as crazy as it sounds. Airscape: The Fall of Gravity is an action platformer developed by a small group of students with a story unlike anything else youve played before. It follows the plight of an octopus, lost in a strange and dangerous world, whose friends have been abducted by a mysterious force. The objective of the game is to navigate your way past hordes of dangerous obstacles in various zones, and collect critters (blue orbs) to free your friends. The ultimate objective of these levels is simply to survive and reach the end, but as a bonus, if you collect enough critters, you can unlock bonus missions, whereupon completion you unlock a new octopus as a playable character. Each octopus has a different ability, ranging from hovering to being able to teleport short distances. Unlocking multipl...

Galak-Z: The Dimensional Review | GameSpew

Added: 12.08.2015 9:18 | 10 views | 0 comments

Alastair at GameSpew writes "Galak-Z: The Dimensional is a 2D shooter combining frantic dogfighting action with strategy and guile. Heavily inspired by Japanese anime sci-fi, its a slick, creative experience that rewards intelligent gamers who know when to fire their blasters and when to run. Styled like a TV series, Galak-Z plays out over five seasons, each with five individual episodes. Currently, there are only four seasons available; the fifth is scheduled to be released at a later date. You take on the role of A-Tak, rookie pilot of the nimble ship Galak-Z. The story is suitably epic: as mankinds last remaining hope, its up to you to defeat the evil imperial empire and save the world. This game makes no secret of being a love letter to classic anime; your ship even transforms (complete with that awesome transformer sound) into a giant sword-swinging mech. The vivid cell-shaded cartoon visuals are excellent, and combined with an original soundtrack featuring pulses of el...

Better Late Than DEAD - Early Access Preview | GameSpew

Added: 07.08.2015 16:18 | 10 views | 0 comments

Emily at GameSpew writes: "In a world where survival games are blurring together, Better Late Than DEAD decides to try its hand at carving its own path. There are good things and there are bad things, but Ive kept my mind open to the fact its still early days for this game. I hadnt even heard of this game before coming to review it. The main brunt of information I had about it was its game trailer and sometimes thats the way I like it; with no expectations you cant be too disappointed or so I thought. The trailer starts with a sweep of the surrounding island in all of its desolate glory; from broken houses to azure water, we understand quickly that this island wasnt always abandoned but the question here is: where did everyone go? As soon as the game begins, however, we figure that out when facing all of the fly-ridden body bags scattering the island. Delicious."

Dream Review | GameSpew

Added: 06.08.2015 16:18 | 14 views | 0 comments

Emi at GameSpew writes: "Developed by the small indie studio HyperSloth, Dream is a puzzle-solving exploration game sure to boggle the mind. Dream finally left the Early Access stage on 31 July after becoming available on Steam back in August of 2013. Set in the subconscious, you play as Howard Phillips, with the goal of finding self-awareness, truth of this young mans life, uncovering the reasons for his odd dreams, and the identity of who is on the end of the phone."

Games That Changed Our Lives: Tomb Raider

Steven at GameSpew writes: "Imagine a world without Lara Croft. The ridge-climbing, relic-seeking, ass-kicking English aristocrat with the curves of a genetically enhanced Page 3 model first somersaulted onto our screens in 1996, courtesy of Core Design. The platform genre, previously the domain of primary-coloured cartoon characters with a kleptomania for rings and coins, would never be the same again. Lara may have been glamorous but she was also gritty and grimy. She had looks worthy of a yacht in Monte Carlo but, to a gamers delight, was evidently happier rolling around mothballed tombs fighting wolves and mutants than posing at cocktail parties. Packed with paradoxes, Lara was a tough girl from the world of privilege, an empowered female with a physique that seemed custom designed to feed male fantasies."

Kings Quest Episode 1: A Knight to Remember Review | GameSpew

Added: 05.08.2015 22:18 | 10 views | 0 comments

Rich at GameSpew writes: "A classic adventure series that started in the 80s, the Kings Quest games passed me by way back when I was a wee nipper. Having played this new entry developed by The Odd Gentlemen however, Im beginning to think that I may have missed something special. Thrust into the Kingdom of Daventry, you control a meek aspiring young Knight called Graham. Hes a rather likeable fellow thats timid when faced with danger or an awkward situation yet finds the confidence to make a wisecrack or two when the opportunity arises. He also just cannot contain himself when excited. Tasked by the King to recover a magical mirror currently being guarded by a huge dragon, Graham gallantly climbs down a well into the dragons lair, beginning a perilous escapade that serves as a brilliant opening to this charming adventure."

Party Hard - A Preview | GameSpew

Added: 04.08.2015 21:18 | 22 views | 0 comments

Diggy at GameSpew writes: "You know how it is you work all night, and when you work you dont feel all right. And when things stop feeling all right (and everything is all right), some douchebag neighbour has a party going at 3 a.m. thats keeping you awake! Well weve all been there, but in Party Hard you get to see what happens when you reach for the knife rather than the earplugs. Party Hard is an indie arcade action game, whose single-level prototype (created for the last Global Game Jam) has lead the way for an upcoming full release this month. Looking at the preview of the initial level, it plays like a cross between Hotline Miami and Hitman; it is a pixel-art, top-down murder-rampage simulator, but requires the slowed pace and methodical approach of killing without being noticed. You play as a skinny Jason Voorhees wannabe, whose persistent sleep loss at the hands of his party animal neighbours pushes him to unleash his pointy Freudian wrath on their throats. Its a reac...

Carla at GameSpew writes: "You know that feeling of butterflies people often talk about? It comes around when you meet a new love, smell a tasty snack, see a cute cat, or open up a brand new Grand Theft Auto. You know before youve even popped open the case that youre in for one hell of a ride. Close the curtains, block out the world and immerse yourself in one of Rockstars greatest games."
