Guacamelee's combat and platforming are both really well thought out. You can tell this is a game the developers played inside out while they tweaked the gameplay to get the balance just right.

What is Guacamelee you might ask? Well its a sidescrolling open-word mexican themed metroidvania style action platformer. It sounds awesome and it is awesome. The guys at Drinkbox delivered (again) a fantastic and hilarious game.

Guacamelee follows bumbling farmer turned wrestling superhero Juan, who receives his powers from a mystical luchador mask in order to save El Presidentes daughter from an evil yet comical band of demons. Its not the most intricate plot youre likely to discover this year, but Guacamelee leaves plenty of room for self-reflexive humour, poking fun at the 2D Metroid-Vania genre and gaming culture in general.
